A rather dull display at RAF Waddington, Withers was driving no doubt!
edited to add, it was Perrins and Odell driving
I have to disagree, i felt several passes, a couple of tights turns and climbout with a near wingover was a good show. Quite poignant at times following the runway that she called home for so many years all with XM607 in the foreground.edited to add, it was Perrins and Odell driving

Well done to all at the VTTS and for people who donated to see this fly for so long.
Good article about the Vulcan and the Falkland war. Tornado was meant to replace it.

I was at Wellesbourne for 2nd time in 2 days.
Saturday for the market, to keep her indoors happy, and today for XH558.
There was a lot of cars on site, more than I expected.
There were two passes from XH558 which I think was as much as to be expected.
Followed by a mad sprint for the exit, with all the all the Landrover drivers being their usual dick heads cutting across the grass.

Much as I love the Tornado, it just isnt the same somehow though still very impressive.http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/OperationBlackBuck.c...
My best memory of that was taking my two year old son to Woodford Air Show, the Tornado was coming in, gear down, lights on as if to land, the little lad was going "Oo, Plane, Plane" as it sort of hung in the air, there was a change in the pitch of the engines, the gear retracted and it was pointed skyward, I am sure I could see unburnt fuel falling onto the runway (is that possible) and a massive heat haze, then the noise hit us, the guttural wail with the bass line you feel in your chest, I though my lad would love it, he just burst into tears and buried his head in my chest.
Those were the days when we almost (not actually possible) took a Vulcan flying past for granted, certainly didnt yesterday, I am not generally very patriotic but I allowed myself a little seeing the Vulcan aimed skyward yesterday.

I bet there were a few surprised travellers on the M1 and at the airport, which was very busy at the time.
Would have been nice to see Rolls Royce's Spitfire chase her around the airport...

To be fair on Martin, he certainly threw her around departing Manchester Airport on Saturday, he har her well over 90 degrees, and a high powered climb.edited to add, it was Perrins and Odell driving

Shame he then took it easy over Woodford, where we were all waiting, leaving with a wave of the wings - very poigniant goodbye for both the Vulcan and Woodford.
I will sulk as I didn't get to see her yesterday.
The sulk was worse when I was bombarded with texts yesterday afternoon from various in my family telling me '558 had flown over their heads twice at Southend airport.
Were most people emotional with these final flybys?
Note: I must see the old bird in the air this year.

No, no, no, but Elvington was very dry and dusty. The sulk was worse when I was bombarded with texts yesterday afternoon from various in my family telling me '558 had flown over their heads twice at Southend airport.
