Is it definite that the other two Vulcans XM655 or even the older XL426 can't be made airworthy?
I think they all swapped any engines with flying hours left for ones with ground life with 558 and its now a combination of down to the last 4 of those with not many hours left and fatigue that will ground 558. Not my pic, but Lakenheath yesterday..
Wow!

Yes, definite.Without BAe/RR manufacturer support (as with '558) the CAA won't allow a Vulcan to fly - period.
(plus there are no airworthy engines for 655 as it has the more powerfull 301's fitted so it's not even a contender.........and 426 has been sitting outside for 30+ years, so forget it!)
When '558 lands for the last time - that's the end of the Vulcan story from a flying point of view.

I believe the ground runnable engines she had in her when delivered and used for the years she run up and down Brunty's runway, were given to the '426 team as spares...?
The engines on '655 are not compatible with '426 & '558 being 301's.

As it stands at the moment her last flight is -
Sat 26th September Leeds East - Church Fenton (North Yorkshire) Display
Sure something special is still to be announced for her final final flight and it will be like Heathrow for concorde's last landing [/footnote]
The final Concorde flight landed at Filton. My point being that all we know for sure is that the final-final landing will be at Robin Hood, I'm sure that there will be some sort of ceremonial final flight, but I assume capacity at RH itself will be restricted to some Trust members at the most.Sat 26th September Leeds East - Church Fenton (North Yorkshire) Display

Another flypast confirmed at the Dartmouth Regatta on September 29th.
"ADDITIONAL LOCATION: We can confirm that XH558 has been confirmed to complete flypasts at Dartmouth Regatta - Saturday 29th Aug (tomorrow).
At 1.20pm, ahead of take-off, we will be honouring the one minute silence being observed for those who tragically lost their lives & all those affected by the accident at Shoreham last weekend. We hope you will help spread the message and join us. Thank you."
