Beachy Head is not on the route to Goodwood or Old Sarum. It's quite. Long way off route, in fact they pretty much had to avoid Goodwood on the way down.

I'm not saying they should risk safety, I'm saying if you factor in the flying hours to get to Beachy Head and back that could have been an entire display at Goodwood and then at least a fly past at Old Sarum before they even had the problem.

I believe they can only plan for a situation where the aircraft performs as expected, in which case all booked events/photo sessions would have occurred without issue. If a technical problem occurs then they have to put an alternative plan in operation with safety the primary concern.
I was planning to go to Old Sarum but for other reasons it didn't work out, so I was (selfishly) quite relieved I didn't miss it! I also missed it at Uffington due to the weather cancellation. I was also booked to go on the paddle steamer Waverley last weekend and that too was cancelled at the last minute - disappointing, yes, but st happens...!

Sounded a bit flat taking off, I think.

I was at Bawtry end and it howled at the end of the runway for a change

I pulled into the layby on the Finno-Austerfield road and it sounded a bit different to me. Didn't hear the howl as I had the engine running.

Sounded loud enough in Armthorpe.

I was at the cancelled Dunsfold show and then was also at the cancelled Old Sarum show. Really not having any luck here.

She's not due to do any more shows South of London now so I'm going to miss out.
Likewise, yesterday was my last chance to see it.
I had planned on seeing her at Shoreham and Goodwood, and have missed out as well (unless you count seeing the speck in the distance from Goodwood yesterday), and with the Dunsfold cancellation, it's not been very good for those of us in the south to see her before she lands for the last time.

Yeah, but then the problem would have arisen at the next scheduled display. If they made all their decisions based on the fact that something might break, they'd never fly the thing.

^^ This . yes have to agree with you . I was at Goodwood and thought why the 'photo shoot' (that was kept quiet also), surely that visit could of been done on the Farewell tour ??
Are these not the very lucrative 'fly with the Vulcan' shoots that have been offered? I imagine the funds from these have been factored in to their maintenance/flying plans.

Must've just been me then.

Thank God I was at Dunsfold on the Saturday... thought about going to Old Sarum but I couldn't really afford to take the time off. Just as well - Vulcan no-show and the rest of the event badly-organised by most accounts. VTTS's decision-making is becoming more bizarre with every passing month, it seems...

You'll have to explain that one to me. What's the decision that was bizarre?

Going along with the withdrawal of design authorities. The huge salaries. The recently-purchased fleet of new Range Rovers. Prioritising private sessions over public displays. I could go on.

Can you elaborate, I've not heard any of the above and if it's true it puts a whole new perspective on my future funding of 558 yes

What future funding of 558.....she's only got a few weeks left in the air? If they expect funding donnations beyond flying life then they are barking IMHO.

And it's not VTTS/TVOC's fault that DA is being withdrawn, although, had they not carelessly trashed 2 of their engines, there might have been enough engine cycles to have got a full season out of her next year - but very unlikely to have got beyond that with the FI on her fast running out as well.

I'm sure there will be constant requests for dosh to keep her in a fit state to taxi. If that's the case I may contribute, however not a chance if they're pissing valuable funds up the wall on nice cars and high salaries.

Putting a photo shoot at Beachy Head above public displays at Goodwood and Old Sarum would be my example.

I think the comment was more concerned with the financial aspect, i.e. the alledged purchase of a fleet of Range Rovers and huge salaries; both things I'd be interested to see evidence of.
