they are saying that no date as been set for the final flight - does anyone know how long she can keep flying for? till the end of October or longer? there must be some kind of cut off date
What I heard was that there are certain components that will be timed out at the end of October. If they were replaced then legally until the end of the year but I can't see that happening.

Doncaster, which is a shame as she really should be retired to Bruntingthorpe...

Doncaster's pretty cool. I'm a little surprised given the airport's complete apathy of their role this weekend.

I'm more than happy with that.

I don't know who put this tribute video together but very well done. 104 views - tucked away in a corner of Youtube and it deserves more.

I've seen the Vulcan fly three times this year, but this vid really does leave a lump in your throat.

And to finish with the barrel roll by Roly Falk, pure class!

They should make room for her at Duxford.

Duxford already has a Vulcan - and I wouldn't like to try landing '558 there since the M11 shortened the runway...

They were based here. Why is it a shame. It's very fitting.

That all depends on what happens there, especially given the issues already with public access. Despite what's being said, most with a degree or realisation know that taxy runs are going to be an issue at Finningley (or what ever it's called this week) as time goes on, security issues at airports being what they are, especially if the extra passenger numbers they talk about achieving happen.

Despite different issues, I still think it would have been better to have done a 'deal' with Elvington, to take her there with an aim of securing building of a hanger for her (and maybe for Lusty as well) with Brunty indeed as the 2nd option (although politically that might be a non-starter for certain reasons!)
I'm not alone in have a concern about '558's long term future at Finningley, certainly from being kept as an active airframe is concerned at any rate.

Based on what Bruntingthorpe's surface has done to my car, I'm not sure I'd want to do fast taxy runs in the Vulcan

I was walking on the Brunters runway on Sunday and its bloody awful - cracks, pot-holes and disintegrating tarmac - explains why I destroyed a pair of tyres and lost lots of paint after an Asda charity day there. If I'd seen the tarmac before the event, I wouldn't have done it - scary to think I was doing 150+ on that surface

Vulcan was moved from Brunters to Finningly due to the runway not being maintained in a running condition. The risk of foreign object debris being ingested into the engines was quite high, and would have shortened the engines life dramatically.

The irony is strong with this statement, given the fate of two certified airworthy Olympus engines when they failed to read the packets, and tried to ingest the silica desiccant bags that someone failed to remove before start-up.

Especially as the Vulcan's design means if one engine goes it almost always takes out the one next to it.

I was talking with one of the VTTS people at Gaydon (bought one of the blades out of the damaged engine) - seems both engines only had 40-50 hours left on them anyway, so it wasn't the disaster most would think, just a fairly annoying inconvenience (especially as they had new engines in reserve anyway)

Didn't it live at Lyneham after Bruntingthorpe??
