That sucks, I was looking forward to seeing it at Bournemouth today!
You, me and probably half of Bournemouth, as they had a campaign that raised funds to secure the appearence of XH558, but safety MUST come first. At least it was spooted in preflight checks and not discovered later. The ground crew are VERY good.

Does the Vulcan Trust now refund any of that money to the Bournemouth Air Show organisers?
I was wondering that, especially as it was (reportedly) a local Lord who donated the £9000 - £15000 (depending on your source) needed to book it. Organisers had originally said they couldn't afford it, full stop. Until this Lord chappy stepped in. Surely he gets a refund, unless it actually made it to Hurn and is stranded there?doogz said:

......Buying parts etc. I can see being expensive, ........
The thing is, as we were told at the PH visit to Vulcan, all the Vulcan parts were designed and built in the 50s/60s. Things like sheet titanium have to be specially manufactured to the original Imperial standards. That makes everything very expensive.surveyor said:
It's a shame that the RAF can't give more support. Buying parts etc. I can see being expensive, but say for instance offering to fuel the plane. It's going to be a drop in the ocean for their fuel bill, but a significant saving to the trust.
In these modern times the forces have to balance budgets the same as anyone else. This includes the fuel budget. I't not unknown to stop flying so you have enough fuel for essential flights and not just training/jollies.IMPORTANT NEWS - Latest on XH558 Fuel Leak.
Issued at 4pm Wednesday 11th September
We have now received a report on the state of the leaking No.5 tank from specialists FPT Industries in Portsmouth.
Given that more than one leak and other signs of deterioration were found, and that the tank is itself over 30 years old, we have concluded that, if repaired, the tank would remain vulnerable to further leaks.
We have therefore decided that repair of the tank would not prove economical and, if reinstalled on the aircraft, could prove to be unreliable.
There is no airworthy spare available; we have accordingly commissioned a new tank to be manufactured immediately.
With an estimated 16 week lead time for manufacture, we are very sorry to announce that it will not be possible to return the aircraft to flight again in 2013.
XH558 has therefore sadly made her last public appearance this year.
We now wish to concentrate on ensuring we are able to secure sufficient funding to return XH558 to the air for another two seasons.
Please await further news in upcoming official newsletters and VTST Press Releases.

On the way back from Rhyl airshow, I would guess - see above, was due to start the display there at 16.47
This post is pretty late but I saw XH558 at Rhyl, decent performance and was great to see the reaction it got; people streaming onto the beach as it flew in.I'm pretty lucky that I've seen her a few times now, saw a few displays and was able to get up into the cockpit when I was at Lyneham.
