Was watching the Vulcan flying overhead elvington last week doing some very nice banked turns and extremely low level fast flying, was on the road from Stamford bridge to the a64 just watching it for 25 mins then as I joined the a64 she flew overhead at around 250/400ft before climbing straight up with a hard bank to the left back towards elvington, was a sight for sore eyes
Was back over Elvington again today, I live two miles away. So it was over me a lot too.DMN said:

What I find quite sad is the level of support for this icon is huge, yet it's all coming to an end shortly
I think key engineers have retired or parted ways hence why it's the last year (that what my old man told me anyway)FourWheelDrift said:

ITV website reporting that it is being retired due to "safety fears"
I thought it had just reached the "end of life" for some of the airframe etc?
I am guessing its usual press poor reporting / scaremongering?
Yes, end of life for the engines. The point is that the engines are nowhere near end of life by original RAF standards, but the safety margins required for a civilian aircraft in the 21st century are rather different from those acceptable for a military one in the 60s and 70s so it is a safety regulation. Just not an actual safety issue.I thought it had just reached the "end of life" for some of the airframe etc?

Was there to mount the Red Shrimp antennas. The reason for some Vulcans having 2 is that they were built to carry the Blue Steel missile and the thinking was that the missile housed under the bomb bay would block the signal from the antenna on one side so they mounted one each side.
