Yes, he did. The plane went over the side.

First ever successful landing of an aircraft on a moving ship.

Didnt the pilot die on his second or third attempt after this?
Yes the Sopwith Pup punctured a tyre on landing and the pilot drowned.

Nice paintings. Remind me of being a kid and trying to decide which Airfix kit to buy with my pocket money based on how cool the picture on the box was.

Some good pics here! Knew someone would eventually post a pic of the Thunderbirds pilot jumping out!

Not faked. Bloke was taking picture of the tractor ploughing as the Lightning piled-in in the background. Pilot went through a greenhouse, breaking legs.

Pilot survived this slight error of judgement...

...as did this chap.

There's a photo somewhere of the BBMF hurricane, on the ground at night, with the background all illuminated with arc lights (I think it's a time lapse pic). I've been looking for it without success, but it's a cool pic if anyone knows it.

Top thread!

I've seen modern pictures from the "Machloop" (The RAF's EVO triangle? smile ) - but did Vulcans and Lightnings ever train there when they were given the low-level role? Any pics? They'd be AMAZING!

Is it just me or are RAF pilots scared of heights

American planes are mostly very very high up

While the brits are very very low

Or is it some HSE rule that they aren't allowed to fly high up incase they fall out
