What's the story with this one? Very unusual place to mount missiles, that.69elan+2 said:
Got to admit it had a good look to it.

Had to put this up! BA VC10 at White Waltham airshow in 1977. The skipper ended-up in the shit big-time, allegedly... High angle-of-attack and flap setting indicates they were going pretty slowly. They'd have been deeply mired in ka-ka had they got behind the drag-curve doing this. Cool though!
I thought that one was where the pilot (just about to retire) decided to see just how low he could get away with flying, I think he ended up about 6 ft from the ground, got a severe telling off, but not much they could do as it was his last flight. I do know that it was definately done in the VC10 that last year went from Cosford to Brooklands, as we were getting told all the history of that plane while working on it for the move.Edited by speedtwelve on Sunday 25th November 02:32

That as Squadron Leader Joe L'estrange at RAF Cranwell. He has more flying hours than any one else and when he retired he had flown all types in the Navy and RAF at the time, 9000hrs on Vulcan alone! He did get a bollocking after this as it made the Reviewing Officer screem! The next time he flew even lower and told the reviewing Officer not to tell him how to fly!
Here he is, second from the right
He is still going strong and taxi's XL426 at Southend
