Who remembers this one ? Virgin Atlantic Challenger - the first attempt which nearly made it but sank after hitting floating debris

A kid round the corner hitched a ride with us to school each day, his day worked for Shell and was involved with the oil or fuel, kid got a ride on the boat, I was mighty jealous.

Somerset in the background, fine old tub, last I saw she was along side the quay at Newport and Barny Sandeman had her up for sale.
Wow that's a blast from the past !!!

My Dad and several of his mates were involved in something or other on that ... as a kid I got to go out on a few sea trials on it as we were usually at Hamble Point Marina every weekend.

Also nice to see old Somerset in the background!

She's moored alongside the quay at Newport, IOW, in a right state.

She was a radar training ship used by the college of navigation over at Warsash.

IIRC she's a Fred Parker design and was a yacht to start with.

I don't know, Pieter Schelte had a ring to it.

Anyway, job done today in a single lift. Fantastic piece of kit and congratulations to all involved in this project and the incredible planning that went into.

I have seen the amount of work that has gone into it from a close up as my wife was lead QA Eng on the project for a number of years. Well done dear beer

Go-fast confiscated from narcos in Panama and now used by the cops to catch narcos. Apparently does well over 60 knots.
