Drive past it everyday! It was massive, one of the bigger ones that have been in for a while. I went up to ask about it and the security told me a Drill Ship was due in next, although...havent seen it yet!
You work/live nearby then? We have an office on Airport Road West so I'm down at least once a week. Seriously big ship, largest I've ever seen in person anyway.
East Belfast, work in Lisburn....so over it every day.

My brother in law is the driller on the Chikyu, so I have an interest in O and G, drilling stuff...

And yes, he has promised to get me on board at some stage!
Photos obviously compulsory hehe

Norfolk Naval Base over Christmas

confused
errr ditto confused
What's the confusion? Such a collection of naval might may never be seen again as most of the fleet is being sent to the Pacific. The Navy tries to get most servicemen home for Christmas, but it's rare that you would see five aircraft carriers, four amphibious assault ships, as well as a huge selection of surface warships, cargo ships, subs, etc side by side. The flat tops alone account for more naval might than there was at Pearl Harbour when it was attacked.

Confused because the links don't work. The later poster could have mentioned this, but didn't.

CVN 65 Enterprise there has been stricken from the active list and is due to decommissioned in March. It will then await the scrappers torch as it can't be saved as a museum ship due to the size of the early reactors it has, removing them would mean huge section of the ship cut away to get them out leaving not much left to save. This process will take 2 years. The island bridge structure may be saved.
