Engineer1 said: Deadliest Catch looks like smallish companies trying to do the job on a low budget, yes they are awake 30 hours etc, but how much use is a life jacket when the water is cold enough to freeze you before a rescue could be performed? Well, the folks in the FRC went over the side, and were rescued. It is perfectly feasable to rescue someone from the water, and have them survive.

If you fall in the water in anywhere other than a tropical climate, I wouldn't put money on you being recovered alive. It does depend on what you are wearing, but in northern waters in winter you are looking at minutes. With a survival suit on you might extend that to an hour or so, but really if you want to stay alive you stay on the boat.

The lack of life jacket seems to be of the same mentality as the saliors of old who couldn't swim, would you want to watch your boat sail away, or die quick?

That was in antarctic waters.

I expect they were wearing immersion suits. You would be stupid to get into a boat like that in Antarctic waters without one.

Nope.. Not immersion suits. They look like weather suits, which are workwear for cold weather, but do not seal out the water. Immersion suit Weather suit

That was in antarctic waters. Not quite. They recovered themselves on to the overturned rib. They were only in the water for a short period. Now, had they fallen off without the rib being in the water for them to climb on, would it have been different?

Bump = in more ways than one. I am just watching the last episode on Discovery +1. f king reckless Tard's. That 'First Mate; or whatever the f k he is the one that sounds a little Slow, Jesus I would crack him in the face with a Whale bone itself. Now they are laughing that the missed a Catastrophic mid Antarctic Ocean collision by 10ft That Captain should be clapped in Irons himself. d heads...... will report back soon.

next ad break ! f king stupid thick t t. What THE f k are you thinking ramming another vessel ? ? ? Never mind you are in the middle of the coldest remote, unsaveable, part of the oceans in a boat that to be honest is not exactly a Icebreaker ! I would be running into my immersion suit before you could say 'We are a bunch of retards acting like school kids, we love Captain Paul, We have them scared " f k That ! Pretty sure the Japs would not exactly stop to rope you out of the Water. Probably Harpoon the f king Captain himself.

How / Why are they able to get away with it? Sure some governing body would be aware of the TV show and be able to start an investigation.
Are there no laws against having un-qualified crew?
Are the other ships allowed to defend themselves? Surely a whale boat has got some decent sized weaponry on board to dispatch large sea creatures which could be turned against an attacker. Leaving the whaling argument out of it I would think the whale boat crew could pick off a few key member of the other crew in self defence. Shoot 2 or 3 of the other crew to save their own crew of 100 (?) going to Davey Jones.

The 'captain' is deeply irritating. The skinny one with the 'tach who tries to take charge in the captain's absence (i.e most of the time) needs a punch in the face. HOWEVER I don't think the programme examines the core issue enough - which is taking a bunch of attractive naive girlies out to sea and boffing the crap out of them.

I love it how they puff their chests up and claim "to of shown they are not to be messed with" and then mid collision last night you read the subtitled text: "I'm scared" from one of the Hairy poppets..

I assume they will be a "Flag of Conveniance" with no or little insurance. If they are not commercially registered, they will not need proper crews...

I get the impression they sail under which ever flag state will put up with them and following the TV show I guess the Dutch who's flag they where under will be deciding to withdraw that as they had a no action off the Steve Irwin rule, so throwing bottles from the ribs was fine but from the Steve Irwin was a no no.

Cant believe that f k wit Paul Watson actually holed the boat by ramming the Japanese, what planet is he from? Hopefully he is stripped of his captain rights
