Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't 'White Pearl' and 'S/Y A' one and the same?

'White Pearl' was the project name before being officially announced at 'S/Y A' last week.

Both 'A' and 'S/Y A' were scribbled by Phillipe Stark, and both are owned by Andrey Melnichenko.
Ah yes you very well could be right.

'A' is so bizzare to me. It looks pretty cool but from seeing pictures (and particularly this fly over - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WC7oEywK02k ) the deck space available seems tiny!

I've a question. I have had a little look on the superyachts website and have decided which one I would like to charter for a couple of weeks somewhere nice.

http://www.superyachts.com/yacht-charter/air-1683/

Questions are:

Am I the right demographic to be allowed to hire this boat (Lets just assume for a wild moment that I can actually afford it, say I just won the euro millions) being as I'm somewhat of a peasant, relatively speaking. i.e. Can anyone with enough reddies just book this like you would a Butlins holiday?

Secondly. OK I've booked it for a few weeks.... err what do you actually do for a few weeks sat on a boat? Can I tell them to take me anywhere I want (within reason of course), have races with other superyachts? Does it not seem a bit well boring after a couple of days pressing all the buttons and jumping off the side?

Kinda, Who hires these? and what do they do on them?

They let roughs like Alan Sugar and Rhiannah hire them.

I know of some Arabs and Russians who are banned from chartering certain yachts. This is due to PH standard coke and hookers misadventures.

Most charters are to a certain price per day/week. This includes a minimum fuel allowance, food and drink. If you want to do lots of cruising, extra cost of fuel and mooring fees are added.

A 20% tip for the crew is expected at the end of the charter. Rolex watches/Porsches for the crew is at your discretion.

Hmm. Ok maybe not for me then. I tend to stick to the old 10% tips. Butlins it is then.

On the boat I work on the owner will only really allow families, but again it depends on the boat and the owners preference. We get a lot of Americans and English guests and generally they are lovely people. There are a few horror stories out there though.

In terms of travel, it's in the contract that the boat will do an average of 3 hours motoring a day... So 35 miles give or take. Again, sometimes we will motor for 8 hours and others not move for 4 days. Depends on the guests wishes and itinerary (the charter broker will fob off some dream trip to them).

In real terms of what they do themselves... Depends on the group. Some want to be seen and others want peace and quiet. Some want to explore towns, others are happy to sit in an empty bay and not leave. They sunbathe, they drink, they swim, they drink, they jetski, they go on inflatable rings and all sorts if other toys... More drinking. Go out partying... A lot of drinking to be fair... We are stocked with 36 bottles of vodka at the guests request ready for the next 6 day charter... Along with the usual prosseco, wine and beer.

Dammit! I was all set on Butlins but now you've mentioned the vodka inventory I'm seriously tempted.

Tbh though. Maybe I'm getting old but that actually sounds quite tedious. Thank god I'm not a multi billionaire.

Do you ever race them?

Just a little?

never has one boat ever been near another without the skipper of one just pushing a little harder.
The sailboat boys are always up for a scrap.

He he, that's more like it. I can see the fun in that. I shall now revert to chartering a sailing super yacht. I will stand on deck, vodka in hand berating the captain until he undertakes and cuts up the nearest bigger boat, whom I shall then give the obligatory coffee beans whilst we disappear off into the sunset.

All very well being up for a scrap, but it would help if they were all pointing in the same direction. Unless they are having a boaty game of hide & seek?

Just watched the flyover, I was always unsure about A, but IMO from that video it looks much better than on photo's.

You need some sailing lessons

Then you will get whey they are going in different directions.....

You will also be authorised to shout "Starboard" and "Water" at the appropriate moments to help you win the race
