See Lagom or perhaps wabi-sabi. No doubt there are others.

Not to say if I suddenly found myself with a spare 10 million smackeroonies I wouldn't buy something most would consider very expensive, but the boat that impressed me most at the Southampton boat show last year was the Nordhavn 64, at only about 1.6million GBP. Anything more I don't need.

More details
Not usually a fan of that style boat but I'm liking that a lot. Looks a bargain too. ( relatively obviously)
Looks good, but I fear that it would attract more woolly jumpers and oilskins than bikinis.

think these trawler styled boats are for the more serious adventurer not the playboy type. I have been sitting for hours now looking at the bloody things, as i did when it appeared on the previous page!!! what sort of costs are involved in running a boat of this type?

Here she is with her 'Chase Boat' GARCON.
Post from a while back but caught it in Port Vell the other day. Absolutely stunning. Ulyssys was next to it and though absolutely huge, I wouldn't have to think twice which one I'd prefer!

With used boats setting aside 10% of the capital cost a year will typically give you change after paying storage, mooring, maintenance and indirect running costs; like running a classic car some years you'll be hit with expenses, machinery failure etc, some years you'll get lucky.

Specifically for one of those, aside from the £1m+ to buy it you'll burn 1-1.5 tonnes of diesel every 24 hrs while underway.

A few points on trawler style rigs. Not looking to argue at all but fuel use is tiny. The Nordhavn is the cream of the crop. This yacht would set you back 3m gbp. Fuel burn 2.5 gallons per hour. Running costs would not be 10% . You could sail anywhere globally in this battle ship. If would outperform a yacht 3 times it's size

Indeed they are and no good for me as I sport fish so travel 200 miles in a 12 hours session. But as a long haul cruiser they are ace. Maybe when I retire.

At that fuel burn it's barely ticking over, going very slowly and the passengers dying of boredom and old age. I did not say a new one would cost 10% a year to run, rather that used boats generally do.

Here's a website run by a Nordhavn owner, he's done a few modifications and travels around the world on it whilst working for amazon, IIRC he lists running costs or at least fuel usage and the like in one of his blog posts.

That fuel burn figure is for trolling along at about half power in a smaller boat, that said even that one will be burning close to a tonne a day at full speed.

I agree that wide open all boat engines burn big fuel. My sportsfisher had Twin verado. Trolling at 8 knots used 8lph total, 23 knots used 25 lph total. Wide open at 45 knots used 160 lph
