I've just seen a super yacht called 'Dilbar' in Barcelona. It caught my eye at first because it's the colour of a 90's Citizen printer against the usual bright white. Then, as more of it became visible, that thought gave way to "That's massive!". Apparently, by some measure, it's the largest in the world. It is owned by a Russian oligarch, but the size of the thing had me wondering if it was a mini cruise ship to start with.

I'd pay a small fee to womble around inside for a few minutes just to see what the interior of such a vessel is filled with, but I'm guessing he doesn't need the money!
Strangely enough, I'm sat about 200 metres away from his house in Surrey.

Owns Arsenal football club too I think.

just saw a new picture of Le Grand Bleu. Not a great picture but there is a new beach club on the starboard side where the Landing Craft used to be stored.
Nice to see her being treated for a change.

it's not all about length, some like a bit of width.

"only" 157 meters long but 25 meters wide! She is massive.
15500 Tonnes smile
Azzam is just over 13000 Tonnes

Compared to Dilbar an armoured Royal Navy pre-Dreadnought Battleship of 140m x 24m was 15,500 tons.

All that marble and gilding weighs a hell of a lot.

In terms of boats "tonnage"is a measure of internal volume, not weight.
I see Dilbar's displacement is only 4,100 tons.

I suspect even some owners don't know. Possibly because they don't care.

Steve
I was about to say that. I've been working on a chalet in the Alps and I think only the project manager has any idea what the true cost is as he is the only one seeing and signing off all the separate elements. From speaking to the owner he had a vague idea rounded up to nice round millions, but I subsequently found out even he was way off to the tune of a few million!

It's the highest spec construction I've ever seen and has tech I didn't even know existed...he will probably spend a few weeks per year there.

How the 1% live...

Rounded up a few million and had no clue. Jeez, there is some vicarious mentalist drivel written on some threads

The facts are, anyone worth a few million, like 10 which is a days pay if you believe this thread, will have detailed and I mean detailed statement of positions drafted regularly. Very wealthy compile these daily. Every fking penny is accounted for. There is no such thing as ' no idea'.

You only make yourself loom like a fool spouting utter crap.

Indeed, in fact the owner would have known but perhaps didn't want to tell anyone for any of a number of reasons.

A client of mine used to be her skipper. Not sure if he still is.

Maybe a previous incarnation? I read that this one was finished last month. Today it was at the quayside behind the aquarium, so a closer look was available. Workers were crawling all over it cleaning today. On something that big that probably feels like 'sweeping leaves on a windy day'.

Behind it was parked Ulysses, which was pretty cool as well. This is apparently an 'expedition' yacht, which sounds way better than 'a big ostentatious boat I bought because I could'!

The chap that supplies the adaptive tech into our new build homes (for disabled people) also supplies tech to super yachts. The owners must be lazy buggers!

He also still owns it's predecessor (now called Ona) which isn't that much smaller.

His plane is alright too

According to a quick google the GT of Ona is given as 5148 - if that and the quoted 15500 for Dilbar is correct, that's 1/3rd the volume of the new one!
I wasn't looking at the numbers I just meant that his previous boat was also a monster.

Amazing that someone can own this and think 'Hmmm maybe I need a bit more space'

Well, it's no super yacht in the category above but the covers are coming off the refit of Lady A across the bay from me.

It apparently is owned by some titled bloke off the TV that had an opportunity to create a company the likes of Sony, but failed and now just points at kids and says "you're fired" a lot.

I think this picture is pre refit as there is still some scaffolding there at the mo.

Guess we were all in Barcelona this week!

Managed a few photos of dilbar, suggests it was only delivered in May this year. States Georgetown on the back, why would this be?
