Why does the Herc have such patchy bodywork? I saw one not long ago and it looked like they had replaced the door and a large portion of the body work around it!!!

They suffer huge corrosion problems when landing on sand and beaches etc and have to replace them, don't bother painting them back - too costly.
I'bve heard they'll all be that green colour soon as the paint is far more lasting and protecting than the silver/grey coat.

Thought I would dig this thread up, rather than start a new one.
Currently waiting for the clouds to lift and make a decision If I'm going to go up. Yesterday was crap weather aswell.

Mate send me a text tomorrow if your going up again, I might be in the Brecons and will send you a text if anything heads your way. Shame it wasn't better for you. lots of F15s up high and only a Hawk was it today? Next week could be better, might get Chinooks if you're interested.

Yea I was out all today a few valleys down. Heard the 15s.
I would love to come up more often. But I don't get any days off in the week. But I may be upgrading to a 7D soon and she will need breaking in.

Just got home as planned. Low cloud again so I didn't venture up. Just had a call from my grandparents that the cloud has lifted and they have had 4 tornados. One being the lowest they have seen for a long while.

I've heard about a Tornado, flew up the Bwlch under all the mist and clag. would you mind me asking where abouts your grandparents live?

I was in the Elan Valley doing some waterfalls and heard an Eagle scream through the valley behind, never heard a noise like it. Awesome, awesome, awesome.

My thinking is that the majority of jets follow the A470 all the way to Dolgellau from as far away as Carno and even Rhayader.

cheers mate

I'm thinking of heading up on the 28th, or thereabouts. Is that likely to be a daft week to try and see anything?
