Thinking of taking a trip up next week. Is it worth an 8 hour round trip currently?
It's very much hit and miss. Check to see if any FJ squadrons are overseas first as that can quieten the loop down. Or if you ask Dave nicely he has a source that let's him no if any helicopters are using the mountain flying training area sites We are heading to Snowdonia next week (Wednesday or Thursday) and our route takes us through part of the loop. Couple of questions chaps.
1 Is it really as hit or miss as mentioned on here?
2 1st time I have been so was thinking of going to corris corner. Would this be a good 1st timer place? Only have a 300mm lens to play with
Thanks

I haven't been, though I do keep meaning to as it's not all that far from me in Cheshire.
There this page ( https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/operati... ) that seems to have PDFs for the next few weeks showing the training timetables, but I doubt that means stuff will be flying in those times, only that it can.

And i still never got to see any!!!For a first timer I'd go up the Bwlch, cant really get lost, loads of warning, fantastic views and ideally suited to a 300mm.
It really is hit or miss. Sunnier days can be better but not always. Tuesdays and Thursday are better if you want to see a Tornado it seems until the end of the year.
