RAF found it funny, so I don't see the issue. I'm guessing the back seat guy isn't doing a whole lot on these sorties anyway, apart from saying "don't hit that hill"?

He doesn't even need to do that (TFR)

It looks like I'll have the chance to head up that way next Thursday or Friday (I'm going to have a meeting in Derbyshire and then head to Manchester so detours are to be expected if there are better locations). Is it likely to be worth the effort weather permitting?

Because, presumably, before this the photo enthusiasts could be fairly sure that they'd be able to get sensible low-level action shots with the crews looking all Darth Vader and businesslike.

Now, they'll be trying to out-do each other trying to wind-up the snappers - there'll be nuns' habits, copies of the Beano and probably a mooning or two to contend with - which will take simply ages to edit out in Photoshop to get back to the rufty-tufty-steely-eyed-killing-machine look they prefer.

There was an incident which I can't discuss that happened with a Valley Hawk - they've all had a bking and now fly higher and swear. The squadron from which that tornado was apart of has been great recently but it'll look like we gave photos to the press when in fact is one mindless ex military individual. Yes the RAF had to put on a brave face but behind closed doors the Navi might be getting a severe bking.

Just means that if something like that happens again or similar I won't post it publicly - sorry.

It's not going to be long before a lot more of the training is carried out in newer, harder to access areas - Scotland being one.

Ah well. I won't be in the hills until August due to holiday so i'll post some more up then smile

plus theres a lot of NIMBYs on the subject of low flying. But the revenue us photogrpahers generate in the small villages, I'd imagine, is astonishing.

It just gives them more "ammunition" to add to the campaign of getting it stopped with "stunts" like these. There's one woman who moved from a city, worked for the Snowdonian authority and then moved into one of the valley's that is frequently used. She knew full well what it was like and the jets have been bashing through there long before she turned up. she complains to the RAF every day.

showed the mrs the Sun article and she has said she would love to go... we had a look on the map, then she announced it was too far north of Wales and would take too long to get there....

So near and yet so far...

If i make the effort to dig through the different threads/websites on the subject i'll find them. I was more wondering if there was anything likely to be flying.

You never know. Thats half the fun/problem. like today for instance nothing up until about 3pm then lots of hawks/f15s and a tornado. Fridays do tend to be quieter especially in the afternoon.

So if he's just back there doing a crossword or something, I don't really see the problem...biggrin

When will common sense prevail and these people get told to fk off. Honestly, i mean its just fking ridiculous, they need to get a grip!

it happens at the airport i work at, stupid residents association. If an aircraft lands 1 second after the 10PM deadline then the phones light up with these benders complaining. We had an aircraft on finals 3miles out and due to the clock ticking past 10 we were told to divert to Luton....
