Not a link but thoroughly recommend you watch the latest Mythbusters, as it has great insight into the U-2.
Good, but not as good as the one James May did which was more in-depth and lasted longer
Oh really? Will have to try find it

thumbup
Full title was 'James May at the edge of space'

Filmed this on Wednesday 5th August at RAF Donna nook, Chinook ZA712 using the range in the afternoon, went to refuel at RAF Coningsby then came back near dusk....if you've never seen 7.62mm tracer fire from a minigun then I suggest you dp, trust me it's INCREDIBLE to watch.!!

the noise was amazing and I've managed to capture it in this video so TURN THE SOUND UP!! biggrin
first you'll see the minigun on target 5 and .50 cal on target 1 during daylight and then tracer at night.
enjoy.

Excellent Video! Thanks for sharing

A friend became one of the 'New' Air Gunners in 1982 - he was given a GPMG and a open door in a Chinook - sadly his Chinook was sunk on the Atlantic Conveyor and he spent most of his time down South keeping the runway at Port Stanley free from birds - said it was spectacular at night with the tracer rounds!!

Great video of the Chinook. It's surprising how far the rounds bounce.

I never realised there was a range within a couple of hours of me.

How often is it used?

Thanks very much, yes the rounds do bounce quite far into the sea so I'd hate to be in a boat out there fishing!
The range is used week days, there is a facebook group which gives info on what is due in each day

A380 Cross wind landing with telephoto lens - interesting from two points:
1. I didn't know it only had 2 reversers.
2. Always surprised by how much flex there is on the airframe!

If you think about it, you wouldn't really want thrust reversers on engines that may be overhanging the runway onto the grass...;)

This video was the one that opened my eyes to quite how much some airframes can flex during day to day operations. Also has some top notch crosswind action. It has probably already been posted in here.
