Managed to pick up a copy online for £30... Not sure of what edition it is, but it'll be fantastic to put on the shelf!

That's what the Frightening did best, stand on it's arse & climb like a rocket with the reheat engaged.
Little known fact that the Lightning was only fitted with wings to separate the nav lights.
hehe I can believe that wink

Nice find indeed smile It could be just me that's paranoid but my AV picked up an outgoing communication when I opened the file. I've read a few pages but noticed spelling errors and typos which I find a bit weird for a published book.
I suspect it has been scanned and then the text pages run through OCR software to pull down the file size. That would introduce a few errors.

Found this in one of the links, rather ironic.

Initial orders for American sources of titanium were found not to be pure enough, so the US ordered titanium from the USSR which was pure enough to make the alloy. Fortunately, the Russians never discovered that the titanium they sold to the US during the Cold War was being used to build the SR-71s that would spy on them.

Reading about the A-12 operations at the moment - a fairly less well known story.

I posted these links in the other SR-71 thread, figure they might be appreciated here if people hadn't seen them:

RoadRunners Internationale: http://www.roadrunnersinternationale.com/

Former pilots and crew share their stories. A great way to waste several hours.

The CIA declassified their OXCART files:

http://www.foia.cia.gov/collection/12-oxcart-recon...
http://www.foia.cia.gov/sites/default/files/DOC_00...

And they also published a monograph on the plane:

Seems a good quality model to me. Added to the other model planes that swmbo doesn't know about!!!!!

Upside down - why does it do that? Anyone able to turn it the correct way up please?

That's as explained by Rich Graham in his books - to all intents and purposes, you've dropped off the face of the earth at FL600 as it's referred to.
Rich Graham is currently in the country giving talks about the Blackbird. It's a fascinating presentation and well worth seeking out if he comes near you.
