Saw this in portishead Marina earlier and thought it looked rather nice. I know it is a yacht so that answer isnt quite the one im looking for.

What is it basically so I can do some reading up about them? What sort of sailing can you do on a yacht this size? Where could you go safely?

I actually know absolutely nothing about boats as you can probably guess.

Not being a yachty as i dont do sticks and sheets, its looks like a Oyster yacht? Very bloody nice boats, im sure someone here with better yacht knowledge will rightfully correct me.
Depending on how compitent (sp?) you are as a sailor you could venture pretty far in a yacht like that imo.

I don't think it's an Oyster, but I don't know what it is.

Somebody give that man a lollypop.

Good spot!

So not quite an Oyster, but still the thick end of a £250k wedge.

Would have thought they’d cost a bit more than £250k, but then what do I know – I sell RIB’s!

Not the cheapest one out there either.

Actually pretty good value!

That's mad. When you look at the brochure, it doesn't look big enough to contain all that's inside.
Do they use Lilliputian furniture?

54' boat is BIG inside.

More to do with beam, which makes a big difference to internal space, and increases a lot with LOA.

Best way to see this is at a boat show.

Check a 40' boat. Nice.

Check the 45' equivalent. Oooh, nicer.

Check the 50'+ equivalent. Yowser.

You wouldn't think 5' makes much difference, but it really, really does!

You could do whatever kind of sailing you wanted, and go wherever you wanted. Offshore/ bluewater cruising would be no problem. It wouldn't be my first choice as the ideal liveaboard, but you could certainly do it. Could certainly cruise round the world very comfortably.

Cheers,

FT.

More than you think - a 54 ft boat should cost more than that.

I dated a girl who was working on one of these for 6 weeks in Palma. They feel 'lightweight', + all the sharp corners and loft apartment style don't tend to be very practical for extended cruising.

I would prefer something like this. Plus you wouldn't loose your shirt on the depreciation

20 yr old Frers Swan 53 for the same price

I watched that program where Ben Fogel and his mate rowed across the Atlantic in a tiny wee thing so I suppose one of these would be pretty comfortable compared to a wee rowing boat. Would it only be able to cross the Atlantic in good weather or would rougher weather not be too much of a problem?

I am starting to think all this sailing lark is a bit too dangerous for me! Sailing from Belfast to England fair enough I can agree with that, England to the med in good weather, sticking close to the coast again not too bad. Around the world? Thats a bit daunting.
