Looks like it needs a bit of a refurb. I always liked the Saturn 1 family - always a bit overshadowed by their big brother, the V.

I built the Airfix kits of both a few years ago. I have a few more in my unbuilt stash as well as I want to have a go at some of the other permutations of the Saturn theme.

This photo was taken by Shuttle STS-79 mission specialist Jay Apt on April 24, 1996, as the crew was approaching the Kennedy Space Center in their T-38 jets. They were asked by air traffic control to remain aloft for a short period, until an Air Force Titan-IV had been launched. The Titan orbited USA-118, a secret military spacecraft of which no details are known.

Yes they need to give it a refurb. I'm going to visit the NASA space and rocket center there in Huntsville sometime. A while back you could walk underneath it and look up the exhausts. Now it sounds like theres a ton of birds in there.

That's a nice model.
Thank you. I love the hardware of Apollo and the early manned programmes (including the Russian stuff). I would love to get to Huntsville too.

Here's a shot of some of my rocket collection -

There's been one flying around here recently. We're used to everyday Hercs, but the A400M seems to be a fair bit noisier and makes a distinctive howling sound.

A couple of frames of the test launch of an AIM-47 Falcon from a YF-12A. On 22 March 1966, the crew of YF-12A number 936 successfully fired a missile from 74,500 feet while cruising at Mach 3.15. The target was a Ryan Q-2C flying at 1,500 feet.

Following the demise of the YF-12A project, the AIM-47 was developed into the AIM-54 Phoenix, and fitted first to the F-111B before finally reaching operational status on the F-14 Tomcat
Proper geeky and I love it.

No reason why it wouldn't have worked, the VC10 isn't much slower than a Vulcan and they are stand-off weapons. It won't be the first nor last airliner as a weapons platform concept/proposal I wouldn't have thought. Boeing 737's are used as maritime patrol aircraft; P-8 Poseidon.

It would have necessitated a complete redesign of the wing structure to carry the weight

Nope - it is an MRA4 (the final, heavily rebuilt variant which was cancelled 6 months after the first one was handed over to begin acceptance testing and consequently never entered service).
