The UK equivalent of LAPES was ULLA (Ultra Low Level Air Drop). This had been binned by my time on Albert since, aside from the major trim changes you get as the load deploys, the nature of the ground effect/airflow means that there is a high possibility of the load 'hanging' and taking the tail off.
I have dropped MSPs (Medium Stressed Platforms) from reasonable drop heights and even that rather concentrates the mind.
As an aside, the UK airdrop system(s) were developed using the Blackburn Beverley. In order to accomodate the extant systems equipment after purchase of C130, the UK a/c had a British floor fitted which differed quite markedly from the US floor in things like the tie down scheme.

Interesting - thanks I have dropped MSPs (Medium Stressed Platforms) from reasonable drop heights and even that rather concentrates the mind.

Sounds very hairy stuff and not for the faint hearted!
