Great photo. But 1968? Was a defiant and wellington still flying in 1968??
Or Tempest?

Most likely a show of all the RAF's assets including museum pieces

That's not a Varsity, it's a Hastings.

It was the official display and Royal Review to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of the RAF.

The RAF had a number of aircraft in store for the planned, but not yet built, RAF Museum at Hendon. These were brought to Abingdon for the review. After the show they were put back in store. The museum was officially opened in 1972.

Most of the historic aircraft on display at Abingdon are now either at Hendon or Cosford. The Wellington is currently in a dismantled state at the Michael Beatham Restoration Centre at Cosford and it will be there for a few years whilst it is completely refurbished.

My first RAF flight was in a Chipmunk

My second and third were in Hastings in 61

Those times were magical for Air Cadets

And in other news

Another Canberra (A T.11 I think) and the Hurricane

My screeen is set to suit my eyes so I had to scroll right a tad

So you did Perdu, mea culpa.

You missed the Beagle Basset next to the helicopter far left though. :P

It's not a Gazelle neither (certainly not in 1968!). Dragonfly maybe?

I'm not sure it's a T11, it looks rather like a T17 on my screen.

mea culpa too GG

I couldn't remember what the name of the Beagle was, then drifted off looking along the line and totally forgot about the wee beastie

I think we, "hidetheelephants" and I covered that Hoverfly with the Sikorsky R4 mention

(Proper piffed off about forgetting the Basset though...) frown

Could be but on my screen it looks like the pointy nose Lightning cone type

I will never know given my bad eyes and small screen

Not as I'd worry anyway

I'm not seeing any of those embedded pbs.twimg.com/ images, I can see it if I copy the link direct into the browser though.

Anyone else having the same issue?
