What a great photo, it's hard sometimes to comprehend the scale of those beasties.

There is a B-29 wreck on Bleaklow moor. Quite a spooky site.

I remember the Duxford one (FiFi?) arriving, also saw the B-17 that was destined for Hendon doing the bases tour in a two ship formation with Sally B at Lakenheath.

I'd rather they fly but I am glad they are preserved as opposed to being used as Target practise ( B-29's at China Lake ) or crushed.

Duxfords is called "Hog Wild", Fifi is the CAF one based in Texas

Found this You-Tube of it arriving

I went there earlier this year. Another couple of hundred feet and they might have made it...

There are a couple of other crash sites nearby. This was a C-47:

There are also bits of a Lancaster nearby, that moor seems to have claimed dozens of aircraft over the years.

We had a cracking day. Very lucky! Not much left of the Lanc. A big scorched patch, but there is a monument:

Me too - stunning design
Love it!

You can keep Air Force One - arriving in one of these is like crashing a PH Sunday Service in a McLaren F1

Was having a browse and this chap does some rather nice pieces. The shuttle take off from above is stunning! I don't know him/have any connection but thought would flag it. Already seen two that are going in the order pile

That painting is a bit too Capn Scarlet, or is it me?

To be fair, the real aeroplane was a bit Captain Scarlet. Indeed, Gerry Anderson took a lot of his inspiration from the cutting edge aircraft projects of the late 1950s/early 1960s.

I thought there may have been a few in there you would like.

I have a VHS video set on various aircraft including on the XB70. It, and Apollo for example, are just mindboggling in what they accomplished with the technology at the time and in such a short time too.

North American Aviation Inc were often the company building these things too. They were an immensely adventurous and ambitious company.
Although they sometimes bit off more than they could chew.

The old dryden images have been relocated but Valkerie. Always worth a visit in a quiet moment.
