Lloyd - you don't take photographs, you paint them like the Masters. You could well be the Constable/Turner of our modern age. They are a pleasure to behold. You have a very special skill many levels above us ordinary snappers.

There is (or certainly was) a similar facility at QinetiQ in Farnborough. I think it even appeared in Tog Gear, in a Richard Hammond piece. It can replicate not only frozen temperatures, but all manner of heat and humidity too, to assess various equipment for suitability for service in various theatres of war.

They were supposed to be having a (reproduction?) ME262 at the last Farnborough but it went tech. Fingers crossed for 2016

Sorry, but we simply cannot have a selection of photos of Thunderbirds without a few of the venerable McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom II...

And an "Ooops!" moment...

What a paint scheme!

F-4 Phantom testbed for the AIM-54 Phoenix built as part of McDonnell's bid for the VFX contract ( which of course ultimately went to Grumman )

Seeing that F4 and the F14 previously, what happened to the Evaluators squadron? Is there a reason it wasn't carried across to the F18s? Seems odd that it'd disappear and yet they've kept Tomcatters.

VX-4 merged with VX-5 to form VX-9 at NAWC China Lake in the mid 90's

Ah I see, cheers for that. A quick Google shows they kept the paint scheme for the F-14s and just replaced the rabbit with a vampire and a half black half grey for the F-18s which is cool.
