Interesting Trislander smile

That's Joey! (G JOEY) The most famous aircraft in the Channel Islands. Regularly flew on Trislanders when I lived there. The pilot often turned around just before takeoff and said 'This plane isn't designed for speed or comfort.' Then handed out the ear plugs! Some ground crew were not subtle when decided who sat next to who because of weight distribution. Also I've sat behind a Labrador who had a seat next to their owners. They had a frame put under the tail so they wouldn't tip up.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post these pictures, but a couple of mates and I went to Sleap Aerodrome this morning and saw these interesting classic planes

Why would one have a swastika on the tail and the other just a cross - or am I thinking too much?

Some more photos

These two looked like they were being prepared for flight. With the display at Cosford next weekend, we wondered if they were exhibitors practising their routines?

The swastika is illegal in certain countries, perhaps the pilot might want to visit Germany for example.

My father in law served as an aircraft mechanic on carriers in Malaysia in WW2.

When clearing his stuff out I found a few pics which I have scanned, not sure if this is the right thread or if you guys will be interested. The pics he took show crashed aircraft. On each pic the shipboard censor has written on the back (To remain on board). I am trying t o track down the name of the carrier he served on.

Could be any of the 7 RN fleet carriers, they all operated in the East (they look like Burma/Far east blue/blue no centre red roundels) and all operated the Seafire and Martlets at one point too.

I'd take a punt at that being a US-built escort carrier from the wooden decking and tie-downs built into the deck; unfortunately there are many more of those than fleet carriers. The deck markings may give a clue too, there appears to be an 'S' visible along what I assume is the deck centre line.

That's a good point, I didn't even notice the boards. I was trying to see some squadron markings on the aircraft.

The easiest way to do this is to get his service record from the MOD as it will tell you which ships he served on; as you're next-of-kin this is possible, all you need is to fill in a form and pay an admin fee.

If you post up the names of the ships he served on I'm sure we can narrow down which these pictures are from.

nope it's not the right thread - this needs a thread all of its own if you manage to find more pictures. Fantastic stuff and a personal take on it. Many thanks!
