And has the 2nd longest airport runway - 5,402m, 17,723ft
Yes, I thought the crosswind runway looked a tad short until I read that factoid when I first saw the pics

Have a look at the LII aircraft testing facility in Zhukovsky.

Two TU-144s
WOW! There's some serious amount of kit there. Including the Sukhoi Su-47 Berkut forward swept wing test aircraft and Myasishchev M-55 high altitude recce aircraft.
3 questions if I may:,
1) What are the 2 delta wing planes?
2) What is the space shuttle looking aircraft? and
3) Where is the Su-47?

Been discussed many times - even on this thread if you care to look back.

On the whole it was the Russians doing the copying - although as they were designing machines to do more or less identical tasks to their Western counterparts, they were bound to look superficially similar.

In the case of the Buran, there were some major differences in the concept compared to the Space Shuttle.

Thank you FastDruid and Eric Mc. I thought they might have been but I was not 100% sure. Now to find the Su-47.

It's just in front of the six small hangers in the middle of the airfield.

There's also a Myasishchev VM-T Atlant which could carry the Buran, or several large cylindrical cargo containers, at the following co-ordinates:-

55.558191, 38.122237

Another odd one...

Bird Corporation Innovator, a four engine modification of the PBY flying boat that was meant to improve range and speed. It featured two extra Lycoming O-480 engines which were recovered from a separate attempt at a four engined Grumman Goose. The airplane exceeded it's safest max landing weight (while empty) thanks to its new engines and extra fuel tanks, which the FAA suspected led it to an emergency gear up landing. The original PBY is now being restored to its original twin engine state and is nearing completion.

A bit of an abomination. I'm glad the airframe survived and is going to re-emerge as Consolidated intended.

Increasing drag, weight and fuel consumption for so little extra grunt isn't likely to achieve much beyond a small increase in MTOW from land; from water the MTOW may not increase at all, amphibians are a complex balancing act.

Aside from the fact that with an icreased TOW the a/c might never 'get up on the 'step' let alone unstick from the water.

That's not fair bounce They've updated the photo. The whole airfield has changed, the six hangers in the centre have gone, replaced by new ones. But the Atlant is still near the spot I indicated at least, and the Buran has now moved to 55°33'29.5"N 38°07'20.1"E
