IIRC the afterburning Javelins (FAW8 and FAW9) had a problem with cold power below 20,000ft because the HP fuel pumps couldn't cope with the engines' demands.

I just knowed you'd be along with some more germane-ness GG

for all its faults didn't I love 'em

I may be the only modelmaker in the world that converted a Frog FAW9 into the early version

or not

It wasn't an easy chop around, I can vouch for that

(I turned the new jetpipes from steel and coloured them in a flame)

happy days

wasnt there somehting about the Javelin where, in afterburner it had extra intakes open, which increased drag and made the aircraft slower then in non-afterburner mode??
Thunder and Lightnings website said:
The reheat-capable FAW.8 was limited to using reheat only at a minimum altitude; below that point engaging the reheat actually caused a loss of thrust (to the point where take-off could not be safely accomplished with reheat engaged). This was down to the engine's fuel pump - it fed fuel at a constant rate and only at high altitude was there sufficient excess capacity to allow fuel to be burned directly without causing a loss of cold thrust at the same time.

Built to Air Ministry requirement F.44/46 (which also resulted in the RN's Sea Vixen via the DH101).

A stunningly beautiful a/c, just a pity it didn't start to live up to the design requirement until the FAW7 came out.
Why didn't the RAF buy the DH101? Was it something to do with the Farnborough crash?

Wonderful shots!

I'd love to have control of one of those and know what I was doing!

Looks more like it's going to try and fly around the world without stopping for fuel. smile

It has a different number of...er...things under each wing. Is that normal? In my very limited knowledge, I would have thought it would need to be balanced

Has it got thrust reversers on it?

More here - http://pacaeropress.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=324... some have been moved and being restored.

Aerial map of the place as it is now (last couple of years)
