RDMcG said: I went on the tour as well, due to the time of year they were only doing two tours a day instead of the usual four, this meant we got a slightly longer than normal tour. The guide we had was also very good, cracked a few jokes to help break the ice and relax people. eta

Dr Banjo said: nice call sir ! I`m not sure if they were mach 2 capable, but they were certainly a worry for Nato when they appeared. A very rugged and capable design, I served in Germany in the 80`s and a few of our pilots mentioned these as aicraft to avoid.

So in my book your post stands Cant believe i didnt think of the brewer/firebar When u look at them , they dont look a million miles from a Me262

The Yaks certainly were supersonic especially at high level and they were used in a variety of different roles, Bombing, interception and reconnaisance to name a few, very capable indeed.

Have to admit it got a few people a bit confused at first!
