I'm no expert but isn't the ground in the wrong place in this picture?

Again, no expert but on my tiny iPhone screen that looks like an A4 refuelling a tristar, isn't that a bit odd?

Indeed smile

It's a RNZAF A4 Skyhawk fitted with a buddy-buddy pack and a RAF Tristar about to 'prod'. It's a 'dry' prod (ie no fuel transfer)!

The photo' was taken in the early/mid 1980's during a Far East deployment with the F3 Tornados and remained a quite closely guarded secret on 216 Sqn (I saw the original when I held on 216). For obvious reasons, it wasn't generally available to the wider audience.

Apparently there was also some video of a 101 Sqn VC10 prodding but I haven't seen that.

True.

Although I think aviation art is a whole subject in itself and possibly could run an entire thread all of its own.

I am a keen fan of aviation art - especially the art of Michael Turner.

(I think the FFS was a bit uncalled for).

The Trent turboprop was essentially a Derwent with a reduction gearbox bolted on the front. Derwents, of course, were the power units fitted to Meteors.
