From memory Rockwell Sabreliner only had 2 engines - the Lockheed Jetstar had 4.

Is it just me or does that look like there's a lot of Convair B-58 Hustler in there?

Nothing particularly amazing about this pic you may think, just an F-104 formating on a DC-8 ....

Douglas DC-8-43 N9604Z (later CF-CPG) of Canadian Pacific, became the first ever supersonic airliner on 21 August 1961 during pre-acceptance flight tests by Douglas. During the special test the RR Conway powered DC-8 was accompanied by a specially-instrumented flight test F-104 and an F-100F for photography. Maximum speed was a calibrated M1.01 in a shallow dive from 50,000' under full takeoff power.

CF-CPG (c/n 130) served with Canadian Pacific and CP Air until 1980, when it was sold and broken up. It did carry a commemorative plaque on it's forward bulkhead, however.

Very few Rolls Royce powered DC-8s were built. I think Alitalia had a few as well.
