clearly you got more angry as you typed and could not repel the anger without a little bit of abuse on the end which is a shame.
Angry? Abuse?
You misunderstand me. If it was angry abuse I'd just call you a and be done with it.

I heard there was talk once of replacing the 9 Hawks with 4 Typhoons, as it would work out about the same cost. As much as I would like to see the Red Arrows equipped with the Tiff, it wouldn't be half as fun with only 4 planes IMHO.
They did this with Lightnings many moons ago.

I think it was Black Arrows then, in Hunters....
Look what I found...111 Squadron

The Black Arrows were 111 Sqn who displayed the Hunter F6 (late 1950's), as did The Blue Diamonds (92 Sqn) from 1960 - 61.

The first Lightning display team was The Tigers (74 Sqn) in 1962, followed by The Firebirds (56 Sqn) in 1963.

I saw the Red Arrows last at Duxford a few years ago: one of the synchro pair hit a bird and had to go home, leaving the commentator to say something like "...now here comes Red 6 from the left, *imagine* Red 7 coming towards him from the right..."

Yeah. Imagine that, would be spectacular!

I saw a red arrow with the wings off(they were down the sides) on the back of a truck heading east on the Edinburgh bypass on Sunday. There was another military jet(grey) on another truck but I didnt catch a good enough glimpse to see what it was.

Probably the pretend Typhoon that does the airshow "sit in the cockpit" bit. My guess is the Hawk was a mock up too.

They were both full planes with tails and wings, just the wings were down by the side. Usually the pretend "sit in the cockpit" models are only a bit longer than the cockpit and dont have any wings.

Im guessing they were going to East Fortune. If they were at an airshow they would have been at Leuchars already that day.

The Typhoons I've seen were a full mockups, one in England, one in Germany. I wonder how many people sitting in them realiased?

Hmmm, you don't have to be much of a spotter to see the cracks, and there are full mock-ups as well as the cockpit sections. There's a plastic Chinook doing the rounds as well - that really is dire. Just bad enough to look naff to those who know, yet still authentic enough to fool the dullards.

Made me laugh at Flying Legends: a plastic Hurricane with dozens of folks taking pictures of it, and the real thing not 100yds away in a hanger - all on its own.

They were coming from Leuchars. There were 12 Reds on display (9 display + 2 spares + mockup) as well as the Typhoon, which was more obviously a mockup, sitting as it was on a trailer. Additionally there were the usual RAF Harrier and Typhoon cockpit mockups.

That would make sense. I had thought that the Leuchars show was on Saturday and Sunday but have since found out it was only the Saturday.

I saw them at about 11am on the Sunday morning.

There is someone doing a good job....the person massaging the figures. Pure bolleaux if you ask me.

They ran a FULL display at Southport Air Show last Saturday 18th, cloud cover was low, and it peed down throughout. Not a wing tip out of line, worth every penny.
Well said, it's the first time I've seen the Reds in many years and their performance in the weather conditions was superb. Once they had finished I would say that over 30% of the crowd left - it was wet, windy and cold but they missed out on some superb displays.

Yeah, good little article.
Nowhere does it say that's the sum total of income generated though does it? If that's how you want to read it that's your choice. Geddit?
You honestly believe just because its a Defence publication the figures aren't massaged? Like anything to do with Govt spending, the figures can be made to favour (or not) either side of an argument.
Gee, if only all tax payers were so easily fooled.
So yeah, I'm really sorry you were misled by a politician.

The Red Barrows performed a low level routine at the Epping Forest Show.

Much quieter and, I suspect, cheaper. Although thier display was in a big arena subsequently used for a JCB display and chariot racing and much of the intricate stuff was lost on the assembled mass. My dog woofs at wheelbarrows, and enjoyed them very much.

The real thing is worth every penny in my view.
