how much to wet lease an A380?
Discussion
I go back to my earlier post about weight.
The sensible thing is to tell all the pax, the strict limit on baggage.
Baggage can be up to 30% of the avarage passengers weight.
eg, 23gk in the hold
and 7kg in the overhead.
Then we got 30kg, if the average pax is 90kg
(what is the average weight the airlines use per pax )
If your just visiting family for 2 weeks or 3 weeks, then you can carry a lot of clothes for a 10kg limit.
500 pax, just carry 10kg instaed of 30kg, and you have saved 10 tones.

IIRC BA managed a one off London to Sydney years back using a 747-400. However to do that the payload was limited to 20 pax. Not sure what the 777 LR or 340-500 can do in that respect but I'd stab a guess at a limited payload there as well.
It was a Qantas 747-400. It had to use special fuel and the 20 passengers as you have mentioned. I have read the B777LR could get to Perth non-stop from London without payload issues. Not sure on the A340-500. motomk said:

This has taken a good part of my Sunday to read and I've loved it, having dreamed of starting my own airline too.
I agree about the weight restrictions. I think passengers should pay for what they weigh (I can say that as I'm only 9stone).
I don't think a small child with very little baggage should pay the same as a 25 stone adult with the maximum baggage allowance. Weighing all the passengers is rather personal, but there's not much any of us can hide at airports now with body scanners and allows the pilots to calculate exactly how much fuel will be needed.
This approach is likely to attract a young, slim, backpacker crowd but that will surely help achieve the aim of making it to Australia without stopping?
I don't have anything against people larger than myself and agree that it's not always their choice to be bigger but your 'fare should be fair'.

Didn,t Lufthansa run a direct scheduled flight from Frankfurt to Sydney in the 1990s? 17 - 18 hours non stop or something. This may be a figment of my imagination.
Singapore Airlines Flight 21 flies from New York Liberty to Singapore Changi. Total flight time 18.5 hours non-stop, covering 10,000 miles.
Aircraft is an A340-500.
Whilst originally being a 181-seat combined Business Class/Economy configuration, it was changed in 2008 to a 100-seat all Business Class flight.

I would love to put £50 or something towards this as would be so funny if it did actually come true even though the £50 would get you nowhere!
.Don't be tight,
I will stand a £500 and buy the first seat.

Just asking.
1st seat may, perhaps, be available soon.

My A380 is really PH; all the other more sedate airlines have dull 4 engine airliners, this has 6 RR Trents FTW. Think of it as the Audi RS6 of the skies.
OK, I'll give you that, yours is a kind of a V6. But it runs on jet fuel, which is basically diesel. Where as mines a rotary (well, radial, almost the same; OK it isn't) and runs on petrol.Plus, mine actually has pistons.... , although to be fair it might not make it all the way to Austrailia (but it should do, it's down hill all the way isn't it?). In fact if you go on mine I'd probably insist on payment on arival - I'd hate to be dead and have paid for the priviledge. So actually, having thought about it. Can I have a seat on yours?

Genuinely interested in this, know nothing about planes though a good friend used to deal with private plane chartering but recently read Branson's autobiography and was an interesting read. I'd love to see this happen!
