A Russian selling a new Airbus A380?.....I must send him my bank details immediately. I see he works for a company that provides crews to ships. How on earth would he have got a brand new A380, unless one of the staff walked off the ship with the crate under his Ushanka.

hehe
No A380s have been sold into non-airline hands, yet.
There is one on order though...

Prince Al-Waleed bin Tala owns several aircraft, all converted for private use: a Boeing 747, an Airbus 321 and an Hawker Siddeley 125. Also on order is an Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft, which is scheduled for delivery in 2012. This has been noted in the 2009 Guinness World Records as the largest private jet in the world.

That would be money out of BAE's slush fund, which ultimately is paid for by the house of Saud, unless you get into the semantics of the ECGD underwriting. Or am I missing the obvious?

Yes, but Air France was using a 'surplus to requirements one' for the ferry hop between london and Paris.
It was actually being used for crew training on the new type. It allowed more crews to qualify more quickly than if they were trained on longhaul trips. BA did something similar when the 747-400 was introduced.

I read it was because flight scheduling meant that it was sitting on the ground un-used for 18 hours... not surplus to requirement, more a case of maximising aircraft use.

Well that kinda happens with, you know, economies. We buy stuff from them, they buy shiny things from us.

The same way that I help pay for Air Force One. I buy shiny things from Apple, Apple pays tax to the US Govt etc etc. Simple concept really......

I would love to put £50 or something towards this as would be so funny if it did actually come true even though the £50 would get you nowhere!
