Just flown into BHX. Turboprop twin, high wing, bit of anhedral, quite a big tail (conventional, not T) with a long fillet thingy. Almost slightly Russian in appearance, about the size of a Dash 7. And noisy!

Bit snowy for a photo from the office window, sorry!

There used to be a BHX forum that listed all the stuff that came in, but I think it's gone under now.

It was a good description. At first I thought it might be a Fokker F-27 or F-50 but the anhedral comment pointed in the direction of an Antonov.

You can see the general similarity.

Yes but those Friendships were so loud you couldn't hear anything else on the apron when they started up.

Lovely, wasn't it.

Even better with a Viscount - twice as many Darts.

I remember the low level take-off/single engine turn displays etc from those mad Dutchmen in their F-27 from years ago..... smile

Here's the last ever UK display from nearly 20 years ago....

Mad Cloggies indeed, but superb handling! ISTR watching a display at Fairford where they got airborne, bottled an engine and went straight into a barrel roll.

Barking mad!

never managed flying on a Viscount

But managed to get a few flights on Heralds,HS748 and also the friendship..nothing sounds quite like a dart used to love the noise just as the prop starts to coarsen.

It seemed like the engine note couldn't get any higher - and then it did. Music to the ear of any aviation mad kid of the 60s and 70s.

Ah yes

I loved the sound of a Viscount

I lived beneath one of BHX's flight paths and the Viscount was the sound track to my youth.

musical ish!

OK then stop press…another interesting aircraft in BHX today!

Also looks Russian, slight anhedral again. Apart from that it looks like the spitting image of a Herc, albeit a bit slimmer, and with more of the wheels visible due to longer oleos. White upper fuselage, grey lower, with a very obvious matt black anti-glare panel under the windscreen just shouts Antonov or similar to me. Can't give any more detail as I can only see it nose on.

Over to you Eric...

Could be...but not sure I can see the "bombardier's" position!

It's running up now so I will see it properly in a mo...

Spot on again!

Great looking aircraft, however it was throwing so much crap out of the engines on climbout I thought he was on fire!

So what's going on with all this interesting Russki stuff in BHX at the moment then?

To be honest, the descriptions have been very good.
