It was a bit different in Essex today, no oilies required!

Major Flashback!

My very first memories of being on the water was in Essex with my Dad in a rowing boat around 1976, much like the one in the picture.

I loved that feeling of being in a small boat and watching the water go by, surging each time Dad rowed.

I rang him up just then and asked where it was (he is a carpenter/boatbuilder) and he reckons my first memory happened in Benfleet...
The rowing boat is a friend's, it goes through the water brilliantly, though my RIB is a bit quicker!

We live on Mersea Island and this was at Ray island which is about a mile along the Strood. A great place to take kids to run around in the mud and have a picnic!

Hopefully my little one will have similar memories to yours.

Mum and Dad alway said if they were ever going to have a plastic boat after their 1938 Charles Nicholson, it would be a Nic 35.

They failed and got a Contessa instead. smile

First time in the water last weekend in perhaps 10 or more years. We only had it for the last 2 to 3 years. Good news is it floats......

Love those Drascombes, looks like a Coaster? Proper adventure sailing up and around the creeks and coast, very capable little vessels.

It's a Drifter actually, although it looks similar to the Coaster/Longboat Cruiser on the water.

The Drifter is a bilge keeler rather than a centre boarder. Still draws very little.

Ours is a 1973. She's been around the world a few times with the previous 2 owners and we're setting off in September. Hopefully she knows the way.

20' launch in the foreground - one of the least glamorous boats on this thread for sure, but it gets tons of use ferrying us around the beaches.

This is just perfect. I love your boat, perfect for that area and I love the Fal estuary. I'm a bit jealous!

Which one is yours?

Those Avon 545s are brilliant boats. Great fun.

The RIB is mine. You're right, they're a great boat for hacking around in with the family, not ideal for heavy conditions, but they've loads of deck space for their size, are very stable but still ride pretty well.
It's light too, so has plenty of get up and go with a 90 on the back and pulls skiers and wakeboarders without any issues at all.

It's getting a lot of use at the moment!

Bangermonics of the seas if you will. I'd love the place / boat combo
[/quote]

The Race Cat is now hitting over 100mph, but that's of no matter.

What I want is a nice little diesel that'll do a steady 25/30 knots of cheap. Just me. on my tod, to pop over to the UK for a weekend.

Any deals?

It would taste better from a C-Truk mug!
