Used to work at mcds, can confirm there was a secret menu at managers discretion, regular requests for qtr pounder deluxe and megamacs. Qtr pounder with big Mac dressings and visa versa popped up from time to time too.
We also used to do sundae lids full of Mac sauce or the mchicken sandwich sauce for dipping your chips in.
So much for brand consistency, there's good and less good managers. Clearly yours fell under the latter categoryWe also used to do sundae lids full of Mac sauce or the mchicken sandwich sauce for dipping your chips in.

That is very depressing that headoffice has so much control over the brand, considering some of the early creations where made at resturant level. This actually puts me off a bit, our servers arn't robots yet, they should still me able to deviate, but i am sure the McDondalds brand police will be swooping on this 'criminal'.

The whole point is that you can go into a franchise restaurant or a company owned store and you shouldn't notice the difference in food or pricing. We do have pricing tiers so for instance central London prices may be £0.20 more than outside of and the same applies to Motorway Service Areas. This actually puts me off a bit, our servers arn't robots yet, they should still me able to deviate, but i am sure the McDondalds brand police will be swooping on this 'criminal'.
If we had secret menus in certain restaurants and not others customers would complain that they could get certain things in one store and not another.
It's all about balance.
There'll be no "swooping" don't worry, I've got far better things than to snitch to my colleagues in Operations.

With things like the McDonald's "Create Your Taste" (https://mcdonalds.com.au/create-your-taste) coming in and "have it your way" at Burger King this sort of thing can't stay secret for too long surely?
I remember when Starbucks sold cheap filter coffee but didn't list it on the menu and have been disappointed when I couldn't have a double 1/4 pounder with cheese at McDonald's because it was out of season but ultimately I just go somewhere that sells what I want instead of trying to create something magical myself, I can do that at home.
