I'm going to take a drive up to Portsoy this afternoon and buy the casks.

smile

Can anyone who still owes money please pay today.

We need a name! We can get anything we want stencilled on the casks and we need to decide ASAP. I'd be tempted just to keep it simple and go for PH Cask 1 and PH Cask 2.

Cheers,
Iain

I don't know if any of you are aware of the Jewish Malt Whisky Society? They have several octaves (and a sherry butt!! eek ) at Glenglassaugh. All their casks are called "Friends of JMWS Cask 12" etc

On that note, "Friends of Dram per Day Cask 1"?

All done, bought and paid for smile

Can anybody who has not yet paid do so tonight otherwise I'll open those slots to the PH public.

One thing I must say, that I only found out today. The sherry casks, what we have chosen as cask 1, are ex-sherry butts with the staves cut down to make small casks or Octaves. This I knew and understood. These are casks that have held only sherry. I tried some of the transit sherry today and it's awesome, almost like PX in it's intensity. No way will this whisky need 7 years, I would be surprised if it wasn't ready after 5 years (Ronnie reckons 3 or 4).

The casks that are described as "refill" octaves I assumed were bourbon hoggies but this is not entirely correct. These octaves are made from a mixture of oak staves from refill casks but there is no guarantee what type of cask they will be from, it is most likely that these octaves will be made from a combination of american and spanish oak.

If anyone wants to pull out of cask 2 based on this information that's fine and I will give a full refund.

Sorry banghead it's completely my fault for not checking.

The sherry octave will be delivered from jerez and filled in November, the refill octave will be filled next week, I might go back up and do that myself smile The paperwork will all come through next week and I'll scan it and send it to you all.

I already have a receipt for the £1300 I paid today and I'll send that too, along with the agreement.

Cheers
Lefty

I left the office at 12 so didn't see any of the replies, sorry chaps.

The casks are called "PH: whisky matters cask 1 and cask 2"

smile

I didn't buy anything else, although I was awfully tempted by the 26yo at £145.

I stopped at Glendronach on my way home, did a tour and was all set to spend £300 on their 4 new single-casks but they hadn't unpacked them yet so I drove home, went to my local and had 5 pints of guinness instead.

The dram per day review tonight may be a bit non-specific... hehe

Any bets Lefty comes away with more than the receipt and paperwork from two casks of whisky !

There are another four months of drams to fill after all.
Calm down, have you seen how expensive Glenglassaugh is? The 40yo is amazing but I wouldn't spend £1500 on a bottle, purely because I would have to open it and drink it and I can't afford to drink whisky at £50 per nip.

Lefty, I for one will be perfectly happy with whatever comes, it will be different and I am sure enjoyable. Now,

Is it ready yet? hehe

Well, somebody was going to do it!
hehe

fks sake, it's gonna be a long 7 years... wink

Are we there yet Dad? banghead

Really sorry for the mix-up again chaps frown

However, I have no doubt whatsoever that it will be enjoyable. They've sold 300 octaves now!

That sherry I tried today was quite simply marvellous. It needs filtered before drinking in any quantity but it's very promising for the quality of the oak for cask 1.

Oogadal is awesome!

Port finished...hmmm, the best port drams I've had are the 21 balvenie and a really young single-cask (port pipe) SMWS Glengoyne. Most others (arran, glendronach) that I've tried have been a bit disappointing.

Although Benriach Solstice is ace, heavily peated and port finished, dark and stormy... cloud9

Finishing off the evening in style with a nice wee dram of a 1975 Braes of Glenlivet.

Very smooth and sadly nearing the last quarter of the bottle!
Ahh, is it labelled as Braeval or Braes of Glenlivet?

Better get it finished since the bottle's getting low... wink

Happy for either...............non-peated sherry or non peated-bourbon !
For you to come in Lefty then we would need to go with non-peated bourbon as you have the sherry ?
If I may be so bold how about put a table up and gauage the interest ? (I would but don't know how !)
I'd certainly go in for an unpeated refill cask (note, not exclusively bourbon banghead )

To gauge interest, please copy and paste this table if you would be interested...

PH Name Cask 3 - unpeated refill

Yummy.
Having bought the Glendronach 15 Revival last week I might sneak back to the local shop to look at the new 15 Tawny Port today. Did you try this when you went yesterday ? I'm quite impressed with all the port finishes I've had recently.
I'm on my 2nd bottle! Thought I'd reviewed it already but apparently not, I'll do so tonight.

Cheers!
