Mid September ?
Yep mid-sept might work.
I was thinking about biking up there rather than flying - bit of a road trip !

September might work for us - trying to avoid Scotland this year but arm easily twisted. Mrs Mercs can't book until after 1 April but our normal cottage is currently available. Its that or the English Riviera - save me !

(In 5 weeks we are away in the Lake District - the worst excuse ever for a day trip to Bladnoch - plus our cottage is a mile from the new Lakes Distillery if I can poke my nose through the door).

Received letter today from Glenglassaugh Distillery and was a bit taken aback with the bottling costs.
Maybe just me but higher than I was expecting and certainly higher than what was indicated at the time of purchasing.
At purchase was also told bottling would be at the distillery now it is at the bottling plant in Edinburgh.
Suppose that has something to do with The Benriach Distillery now owning the distillery.
I am sure I have something about bottling being carried out at Glenglassaugh and cost would be around £100.

Initial paperwork also says they would advise when to bottle, letter received today is written as though you have to tell them and they are only advising that it should be bottled anytime between 3 and 5 years.

Bottling costs are £55 per case of 6 x 70cl bottles.
Duty £28.22 per litre.

Must say it is a bit more expensive per bottle than I was expecting.

I was expecting £5-10/bottle for bottling and duty is what it is, nothing you can do really!

Bit steep tbh; but then it is only a bit of fun.

Is it ready yet?

Sounds right -

From their original FAQ on the octave which I happily kept a copy of, it says:

'In addition there will be the bottling costs which will be around £2.00 to £2.50 per bottle, depending upon the actual bottle used and the label and other packaging material costs. We anticipate that each cask will yield around 50 to 60 bottles.'

So about £100 for the bottles sounds right.

As for the bottling location it says :

'Does the price include transport to the bottler ? We have a very small hand bottling facility on site where we bottle all of our existing products which includes our exclusive aged Single Malt Scotch Whiskies as well as our innovative Spirit Drink products. We will use the same facility for these bottling and so there will be no cost for transport to our bottling facility. There will be a small cost for bottles, labels, corks and packaging material which will be advised at the time of bottling.'

The FAQ is here for your reference if you didn't keep a copy : http://www.craigmcateer.co.uk/cask/Octave%20FAQ.pd...

Except the bottling cost is now 55 quid for 6 bottles. Or nearly 10 quid a bottle...

Or am I reading that wrong?

That's how I read it. Not £2 - £2.50.

However - in other news - 3 to 5 years. That must mean it is actually ready (ish) woohoo

Its not a £100 for bottling though and that was my point, it will now cost £55 per 6 bottles = £495 for 54 bottles. Quite an increase from what was originally quoted (especially when not sharing the Octave)
No bottling is carried out the distillery and will be carried out at their plant in Edinburgh.

Can the cask not be taken somewhere else for bottling?

I'm not that bothered, but 55 quid for 6 bottles feels very much like it's taking the piss.

Have you spoken to them about it and why the extortionate amount of increase ? Extortionate is a good word to mention smile

I know I'll be taking it up with them when I get the letter; might even take it to social media since I follow their twitter account.

Definitely taking the piss.

Not yet, planning on calling Friday or early next week, just want to check paperwork.
Mine was put in the cask August 2009 so should be looking at bottling soon. Certainly not intending paying what they are asking.
I am sure someone on PH bottled theirs last year, would be interesting to see what they paid.

Surely it's a change of contract?

When we bought in to the cask, weren't there T&Cs?

Part of the attraction was having a share in a cask, and part was the fact it was a very cost effective way of getting whisky - the latter seems to have been eroded somewhat. frown

The T&C's are here : This was for my own casks, but it must have been about the same time the PH cask kicked off.
