Pistonheads whisky cask
Discussion
I must say - the Peated PX is one of the one's I am most looking forward to. Every time I think of Lagavulin Distillers I want to try our dram to see how different it is, and I imagine its quite a lot different but equally brilliant. Can't wait. Wish I had been able to sort my dog walker out today and get up, I ended up looking after their dogs.
I would have shared some of my bottles, but alas, as Pete and I both have one half share each in every octave it would leave us with nothing out of our 2, hopefully 3 anticipated bottles of each. At least we will have a nice selection to compare and enjoy. Hopefully, with Lefty's agreement, most people can be kept happy without too much spreadsheet analysis.
Did you do the rooftop ? Unforgettable. And only to be tackled before sampling !

I'm in on the unpeated bourbon so that's good to hear!
If anyone wants to sell a share (or half share) of the unpeated sherry or unpeated port then I'd be interested.
Lefty and I were chatting about this. I'd be interested in exchanging a few bottles. If anyone wants to sell a share (or half share) of the unpeated sherry or unpeated port then I'd be interested.
I'm a Speyside sherry man through and through, but the peated casks were a revelation. In fact, the near spirit from Glenglassaugh is fruity and light - quite like grapa (as noted by one of the tour guides).
Lefty clearly has a more developed palate than my good self, but I think we are a year or two away.
We need to work out a bit of a swap shop nearer the time.

Hi 5678,If anyone wants to sell a share (or half share) of the unpeated sherry or unpeated port then I'd be interested.
I have a double share in the unpeated port and although not I'm not keen on giving up a share I'm sure when we come to bottling one of the bottles can find its way to Berkshire.
It seems like forever ago this started, I am like a kid at Christmas can't bloody wait.
Looking forward to more pictures Podie...........

Nice to see such good community spirit
We weren't able to find all of the casks - they're currently being moved to facilitate better storage.
The 2 hour tour ended up being just over 4 hours, as we chatted away and compared the samples to official Glenglassaugh bottlings. Some of the peated ones are very like Torfa, but not quite as rounded - they still have a little way to go.
Picked a rubbish week in terms of weather

So...
I think PPX1 might be ready.
It's 3yo this month and it's fantastic. Nothing like Torfa, think of a sweeter, more mature Evolution but with highland park-esque peat (highland heather peat, not the marine seaweedy peat). It's extraordinary stuff.
The distillery can't send out additional samples anymore because HMRC have cracked down on duty-free samples so the only way for other people to taste it is to visit the distillery, anyone like to come up? Podie has tasted it, Classic Mercs and Coneyhurst Blue have tasted it (albeit a fair while ago).
What do you think guys? I would hate to see it mature too far and sneak out of its sweet spot...
i'll email the specific cask owners tomorrow but let's discuss it. It's not my decision, we have to get s majority decision but it's a tough break for the chaps who can't taste it first.

Lefty, Rude Girl has also tasted it - so I'll point her at the thread as well.
Of all of them PPX1 was the outstanding sample IMO. Hard to believe it's a mere 3 years old. I think there are a few more photos on Rude Girl's camera of all the samples as well.
I'm not a pear or smoke type to be honest - give me a sherry bomb any day - but PPX1 was sweet and delicate. Dare I say it, better than Torfa as well.
I'm not actually in that cask, but I'm gutted I'm not. If anyone wants to sell a couple of bottles I will happily take them!
