I think the 'standard' bottle looks good but if we could get the tear drop shaped one for the same money then I would go with that.
The beautiful tear drop bottle will be much, much more expensive. I think they were commissioned whereas the evolution/revival bottle is off-the-shelf so to speak. I would expect the cost difference to be a factor of ten.I was surprised at how much had evoporated from these little casks actually.
I'd guess we might get 42 litres or 60 bottles. At 55% ABV that's 23.1 litres of alcohhol, at £27.50 for duty that's a bill of £635.
My estimate is:
Cask: £700
Duty: £635
Bottling (£25 per case of 6): £250
VAT (20% on top of everything!): £317
TOTAL: £1,902 or £31.70 per bottle
We've paid the £700 already so that leaves £1202 to pay, so £120.20 each. There will be postage to pay for those who aren't collecting from the distillery.
It's worth much, much more than £32 per bottle! Seriously chaps, it's very fine whisky indeed.

Thought it would be quite a bit more expensive. My absolute favourite bottles are the ones from the Cask of Yamazaki range. Very simple, almost cheap looking, but in no way distract from what is in them.Lefty said:

Not sure if it's a England/Scotland thing, but HMRC have duty listed as £28.22/LitreI'd guess we might get 42 litres or 60 bottles. At 55% ABV that's 23.1 litres of alcohhol, at £27.50 for duty that's a bill of £635.

Based on quality i'd say PPX1 is worth £60-75/bottle, which ties in roughly with what the bottle-your-own glenglassaughs are selling for at auction.
With only 6 bottles each I wont be selling any! I'll keep one in my permnanent collection, might give one or two away but the rest will be enjoyed.

Silly question - if we get, say 41 liters can we choose to bottle ~680ml into 60 bottles or do we need to fill to 700ml and then fight over the leftover bottles?
Would obviously be easier if there is a neat 10x bottling.
Fight. It will be the only decent thing to do. That, or toss a caber Would obviously be easier if there is a neat 10x bottling.

Are they allowing Cask Re-fills?
I've a 1st fill Sherry myself hitting the 3yrs soon & wondering if it it'll be time!
I doubt it...but it wouldnt hurt to ask.I've a 1st fill Sherry myself hitting the 3yrs soon & wondering if it it'll be time!

I though I remembered the physical cask was included in the deal - just thought it might be easier to fill it & put it back rather than keep it in the shed!
Ooh, I forgot about the casks! I'd like one(or even a half), although I guess we'll have to work out an equitable way of divvying up.AndyAudi said:

I didn't realise there were only 4 of us who are in for the whole lot!
I joined the party quite late, and missed the later ones. I was almost too late at the start - there may be four of us but of course its only 3 shares - it is a privilege to be in on all the casks and have a small share across the full cask range that we bought into. Its surprising the overall number of people across all the casks - I was checking it out just the other day.
Whilst a nicer bottle would be aspirational I always said at the start that the standard Glenglassaugh bottle was more than acceptable, and a recognition of the origin of the dram inside. For me its the label that is more subjective - any graphic designers amongst our number ?
I will happily go along with the majority on bottling - Lefty has a good palate and is closest to matters and in contact with the key distillery staff (as well as having laid himself on the line for all us fine folk - thanks !!). Its that fine line between not wanting to jump in just because its three years, and leaving it too long (as I commented on in the regular whisky thread the other night regarding St Georges distillery who found small casks getting too woody due to the higher English temperatures - but less of a problem for our casks of course).
Hi there,
Wow not been on the Food/Drink forum for a couple of days and when I finally look in it seems my whisky might be ready
Personally if you guys that have tasted it think it's ready then let's bottle it. Don't want it to over age if we leave it to long.
Bottle wise the standard bottle is fine, however personally I would rather pay a few quid for a proper label, especially if we are each going to keep a few bottles. I think it will look much better.
Cannot wait to try it.
Lefty, if you are wanting to contact me then my email address has changed since we signed up for this so please email me via my PH profile.
Regards
Tim

Well how about that I go away for a few days and when I return the whisky is ready - I might try that trick again !
If Lefty says its ready then ready it is, I would trust his palate without hesitation.
I am almost glad they have stopped doing samples, if we all wanted a sample then my guess is it would cost us 1/2 bottles a year which would really make a difference come the end.
I am pretty sure I haven't tasted the finished whisky - I did taste the spirit from the distillery when I visited a few years ago but nothing since, I am more than happy to take Lefty's word that now is the time.
If there is an option to refill the cask then I would certainly be up for that ?
As for the bottle whilst I am more than happy with the standard GlenG bottle I would vote for the teardrop (as long as its not stupid money) - I think that would make it very special indeed, I also agree with ClassicMercs the label will be key !
Look forward to the email Lefty and then we can crack on.
