Pistonheads whisky cask
Discussion
I don't know if the PH Casks are them same (I'm sure they are) but I've just had an email through offering to buy my casks back to the distillery.
Are they short of spirit (or are they keen to get nearly ready spirit) mmmmm. I know Bruichladdich will offer you at the end of 10 years an almost no brainer to get their hands on your cask with them. That consist of a third of the bottles, bottled, duty paid and delivered to a UK address f they get the other two thirds.
I'm in this for the whisky, not the financial returns.

Do they still do these? and who else does it? -I notice the original link doesn't exist any more
Quite fancy a cask myself now....
How long can you leave them for? etc

Typically they are to help get cashflow from a distillery that has just started up. There are some available at other distilleries, but they are full casks not octaves. In other words, don't expect change from £4k (+ duty and bottling after a decade or more).

When we were there earlier in the year, it was made clear there was a huge overhead in keeping the octaves. Are they short of spirit (or are they keen to get nearly ready spirit) mmmmm. The other option is that they want the spirit, because their own bottlings have become very, very successful. For example, the 26 is already finished.
I suspect it's a combination of the two. They don't want the overhead AND the spirit is bloody good - which if nothing else is a good thing.
As I've previously stated, if someone wants to sell their share (or part of it) please let me know.

Happened to need a camera for tomorrow, and picked up Rude Girl's, which had these on it from our visit with Lefty...
Have some others of the distillery, but will sort those another time.
How do these map to our casks?Have some others of the distillery, but will sort those another time.

Got an email from the distillery today asking if we'd be willing to sell them back!
I'm not looking to sell back (I want my bottles!) but out of interest, did they say what they were offering?Do we know yet what our options are with the 'possibly soon to be' empty octaves?

I've spoken to the God of Whisky (Lefty) and he's a bit snowed under. We've worked out a poll, and in due course those people will be sent an email.

Also worth mentioning, as things changed quite a bit over the last weeks all of a sudden...
- octave cask prices have doubled/trippled. They started from 500£ early this year (afair) for a bourbon non-peated octave, to starting at 1200£ now...
- large cask sales seem to have stopped completely, at least the documents are gone...
- Susan, who was working hard for GlenGlassaugh in the cask sales & customer department, has been sacked as well.
I saw the Benriach move as a good thing... now I'm not too sure anymore (not that it matters...). But, with Glenglassaugh's change of ownership, the unique & down to earth approach it was run with will be gone from the whisky landscape as well, making it all a bit more bland & conform...
Oh well.

When we visited in August, it was clear there was substantial investment going in to the place. Serious TLC, and the old cottage at the foot of the hill was being fully renovated.
On a facebook page I am following another Octave has been bottled.
Distilled in 2009 the Octave gave 65 bottles, looks from the label though it was bottled at 46%.
The chap has called it 'Dram of the Lords' - nice label (I think - I'm not sure), what I do like is he has numbered each bottle so on the picture is 55/65 nice touch.
If I knew my way around either facebook or a computer I'd try and post a picture but unfortunately my kids are at school and can't help !
Sadly it looks like some of his bottles got lost in transit - 65 shipped but only 60 arrived in Poland.
