Nice one! Any tasting notes?
It is much lighter, obviously. Bear in mind these casks had at least two fills before we got our hands on them, possibly three.
It’s possible to “recharge” oak, maybe with Sherry or port, ugly be an interesting experiment.
Port - did someone say Port !!!!It is much lighter, obviously. Bear in mind these casks had at least two fills before we got our hands on them, possibly three.

Phil and I were talking about the cost of casks now, compared to when we started this venture, and how with hindsight we should have gone in heavier.
This is only a few miles from me, and it's good stuff. Shall I enquire?

Hope you enjoy the PH whisky,
For those of you still watching this thread, you now have the opportunity to buy into the refill casks.
Following the recent bottling and distribution, the 3 empty casks were refilled with Lingdarroch new make spirit but not all original cask owners wanted to buy back in, so there are a few shares up for grabs.
They will be offered out on a first come first served basis, so if you do want to join in, don't hesitate!
As I'm sure you've all been reading this thread from Page 1, I shouldn't need to recap, but I will for those who haven't been in since day 1.......
Cask 1 - PPX1 - was originally a PX Sherry Cask.
Cask 2 - P10 - was originally a Bourbon Refill Cask.
We (the PH Whisky group) had them filled with peated Glenglassaugh new make spirit in Sep 2011. They were then subsequently matured, bottled (Feb 2017) and both were refilled with unpeated Ben Nevis new make spirit (May 2017). They were also subsequently bottled (Mar 2023) and have now been filled (21/7/23) with Lingdarroch (quite probably....... Bladnoch) new make spirit. At a rough guess, I'd estimate it will be at least 6 years, possibly 7, possibly more, until they are ready - but as ever, if we (the cask owners) want to bottle sooner, then that is also a possibility.
Cask 1 contains 54.8599 litres
Cask 2 contains 53.1936 litres
You will be buying a 10% share and will be responsible for 10% of all costs going forward (warehouse fees and subsequent bottling etc fees).
I'm sure you'll want various other bits of info, so if you do, just ask and if I know it, I'll reply accordingly.
So, what's actually up for grabs then??
2 shares in Cask 1 and 1 share in Cask 2. A Cask 1 share costs £31.37 and a Cask 2 share costs £30.42.
If you want in, please PM me and, on a first come first served basis, I'll reply with payment details and any other info you might ask about.
Have I missed anything? Oh yes - is it ready yet??

One good question I have been asked: What are the ongoing / final expected costs?Warehouse annual rent per share, based on the last maturation period, was £1.81 per year per share.
Final bottling costs (assuming the angels don't take too much), based on the last costs earlier this year will be in the region of £128 - £133 per share.
Bottles received were 8 or 9 bottles (half litre bottles at cask strength) per cask per share.
Bottling costs include:
Bottle
Cork
Foil
Label
Govt duty (ah the biggie!)
VAT (ah, knew they would catch us somewhere!)
On top if these costs, due to problems getting WhiskyBroker to post out (they wouldn't as they couldn't 'insure' the bottles as they have nothing to replace them with, so chose not to offer a delivery service), I delivered to most at a cost of £30 per person - took me 3 days and a lot of driving!
I think that's about it for costs - have I forgotten anything?

All shares, gone!
None left, so if you did want one, you've missed the boat!
Bugger- I snooze, I lose.None left, so if you did want one, you've missed the boat!
I've bought a barrel from the Borders Distillery- unpeated first-fill bourbon cask with up to 10 years' storage included. Time will tell whether it's a good deal.
I'd still be intersted in a share of another barrel if one happens.
Note that the Uile-bheist distillery are still advertising availability for their first 100 casks. They are not particularly cheap (probably why they still have some available), but still works out decent per bottle. And they are up and running, filling casks of a few weeks ago.
I've got one of their sherry casks and have been to visit and try (multiple) new make during their phase of dialling in the process. Chatting to their head distiller was fascinating and quite revealing about how you spin up a new distillery, and the unique challenges they have with also doing beer (much of their physical plant is shared between the beer and whisky process, so they cannot switch to whisky yeast as cleaners do not easily remove traces from the pipes, thus they have had to experiment with the process to get the whisky production to run off the same yeast as their beer).
