I find myself being seduced by the prospect of laying out a load of cash for a Thermomix, does anyone have one? And, for a domestic enthusiasts kitchen is it overkill or will it help me produce great food etc.

Thanks

Roger

I wouldn't bother. A knife and a cooker would do the same job!

Just buy a decent blender with all of the attachments and cook your sauces properly.

If you want a fairly industrial one you cant go wrong with a robot coupe.

incredibe incredible incredible things

would love one- would be able to chuck away about 5 different things, and would probably stop buying half the sauces i buy. have seen these things make all sorts of unlikely things- breads, soups, ice creams, anything really.

interesting that kenwood have bought out a chef that can also cook as well-= that could be interesting, but probably not as versatile as a thermomix and not a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the response, I do have the previously mentioned items but was interested in is as a "one stop shop" for kitchen appliances. The bread kneading would be a welcome addition as well.

I might have to book myself on one of the demos and have a look in real life.

What do they do, in laymans terms?

they're an integrated cooker, blender, mixer, chopper slicer thing.

the most interesting things are the stuff you just can't do with home machinery- such as homogenising ice cream mix- so you get really really really smooth ice cream byt cutting up the fat globules very finely. You can also stick in all the ingrediecnts for hollandaise and come back in 5 minutes and you'll have perfect hot cooked hollandaise.

Do a quick google, there are lots of You-tube videos showing them in action.

Thanks for that. So do you then have to freeze the ice cream (mixture) or does it do that too?

I did, but it is hard to discover what exactly the machine is doing, or is capable of, and what the human element was.

It was my small research into these that led me to buy a magimix food processor for myself. Which is st!!.

Another two items that impressed me were the five grand+ ovens that cook the meat (and probably other goods) in the most ideal way for the product. raising and lowering the temp at certain times in the cooking.
And the fast ovens that use heat and microwaves in unison a la Subway.

Good kit available to professionals, all at a grand price though.

I've been eyeing up Thermomixes myself lately, nice bits of kit. But sadly it will have to wait, spent way too much money on toys lately with water baths, ice cream machines, new steam oven etc etc

I've just been watching a few videos of them on YouTube. Looks like a waste of money to me.

Look at the state of the 'Sunday lunch' she cooks with it towards the end of this video.

that is quite the oddest complaint i've seen on pistonheds in a long time.

the fact she has cooked food that you don't like the look of has nothing to do with the machinery and everything to do with her choice in cooking.....

why does this reflect on the thermomix? its clearly a continental advert catering to continental tastes.

I don't like her dress either. And the colour of the kitchen annoys me wink

Had the demo session today with one of my neighbours, we made things within 1 hr that I never thought possible or would ever have the patience for.

We both ordered one, amazing bit of kit: www.thermomix.com
