Looks like a Costi special from, maybe, the food court in the ANZ building near Bridge St?
If so the Barra, chips and salad for similar money is damn good. Used to work just up the road.
AMP centre on Bridge St and you would be correct. If so the Barra, chips and salad for similar money is damn good. Used to work just up the road.
What happened was, I was going in there for some sushi (trying to find a nice but not hideously priced) and their sushi looked the same standard as the little shop I use down from Woolies near Margaret st.
Not wanting to hall ass over there, or leave empty handed, I went and had a look at Costi... the Barra looked ok, but I wanted to try the squid, it was cooked to perfection.
Do you know any decent sushi places?
I have been trying most I find in the area (Pitt St) but its like they are all the same style... so fking cheap, even the large Sushi takeaways are only £4-5 compared to £12+ if they were in the UK.

AMP, of course. Not ANZ. Used to work in one of the sandstone buildings opposite the park. What happened was, I was going in there for some sushi (trying to find a nice but not hideously priced) and their sushi looked the same standard as the little shop I use down from Woolies near Margaret st.

The food court in Hunter St above Wynyard station is always a good shout for asian food - some great Pho, thai places and things like that. The Malaysian downstairs at the corner of Hunter St and George St is absolutely top notch but can be busy.
I haven't worked in the CBD for 4 years or so now, but sushi e in the Establishment Hotel is high level and not cheap but is amazing.

Their Nigiri pricing looks on par with what I would pay from the likes of main supermarkets in London, yet Im guessing its a hell of a lot better.
Think its a place that my expenses budget is going to be severely abused at... stupid company offing me a decent expenses per day for food alone.

Excellent looking sushi place that... to be honest when I look at the prices there, they still seem a lot cheaper than some of the places I used to hang out in London.

Yeah, sushi is incredibly cheap in Australia - even proper tuna, salmon, kingfish etc. Their Nigiri pricing looks on par with what I would pay from the likes of main supermarkets in London, yet Im guessing its a hell of a lot better.

Last time I went to sushi e the soft shell crab was out of this world.
Rockpool bar and grill does pretty amazing burgers etc for a more posh lunch/wine venue
The Rockpool bar and grill's burgers look pretty reasonable at only £10.50-12 for a burger (ok fries are £3), but considering its a Wagyu burger... that seems bloody good value.
Especially when places in london (greedy cow for example)
http://greedycow.com/menu.html
are the same price and they are not the same calibre of places as the Rockpool.
Another place to add to the list to visit.
Anymore?
(apologies for the thread diversion, but as no one is awake yet... don't care)

Felix in the Ivy complex is a great bistro style place. Mains around the mid AUD$30 mark from memory. Same owners (Merivale) as sushi e. Especially when places in london (greedy cow for example)

Fratelli Fresh on bridge st do good pizzas and wine and is a good place to unwind.
Guzman y Gomez for cheap mexican that is a cut above average. Most food courts in the CBD.
The westfield in Pitt St mall has some cracking places - branch of Din Tai Fung which does great dumplings.
Where abouts are you living? Got some recommendations for dinner places lower north shore (used to live in Mosman, still have family in Neutral Bay etc) but not so much elsewhere.

I looked at a few places in Kirribilli and kurraba point, but could never really justify the beautiful surroundings, with a shoe box apartment and or bad transport links to CBD with Ferry being the only way (KP), in the end went in managed apartment in CBD with a clause to get out in 6 months if I find better.
