^ ^ ^ While the above may not look very appealing, experience has told me looks can be very deceptive.

100% agree, although I still haven’t had a good artichoke, despite trying them repeatedly.

Case in point (this was dinner 10 days ago, but the restaurant opens at lunch).
Lobster and monkfish bouillabaisse for under €30 15km from Alicante. Nul points for plate appeal, but taste and texture was out of this world.

Yeah, the presentation in no way reflects the taste.

The potatoes were the house tapas… you got a small plate free with a round of drinks… they were really good…. Oil, vinegar and garlic, nothing overpowering, just nice subtle flavours.

The carrots were a real surprise… not had them with that spice combination before and they were super tasty (so much so that I could still taste them an hour or so later laugh).

The stew probably tasted exactly as you’d imagine.

But the star of the ahow were the artichokes. Grilled, just the right level of firmness, bit of oil and parsley, with a bit of top end iberico ham. They were fabulous.

Cadiz has been a bit of a culinary delight. Had a very decent meal out last night… smoked lubina, 45 day dry aged entrecot, pardon peppers, ‘lemon pie’, couple of different local reds. All very good. Even breakfast this morning in a little cafe was 1st rate.

Probably 25% cheaper than where I am in San Pedro.

Fumo, playa de las America's. entree not pictured , ice cream not pictured. wine cellar was on point.

this is a kinda, 'fill yer boots' type of restaurant just below the radar and cheap enough to buy whatever you want.

If you’re there tomorrow, I can recommend an excellent place for brunch.

They’ve changed the name of it to “spicy” but based on the ingredients and calories, it’s the same stuff. Been sat in the freezer for a couple of years, as I didn’t spot the rabbit part when I bought them and my OH is against eating pets. Eventually her tightness wins over her principles though laugh

50% flopsy, 30% pork, some (15%?) veal and the rest filler and flavour. Nice taste, not spicy, but definitely Thai influenced.

Wilkommen in der Schweiz mon brave.

Could buy 6 M&S bangers for that last time I was in the UK. Customs get a bit arsey if you try and bring any meat in from the U.K. these days though.

We’re stocking up at Sainsbury’s J9 M20 when we head back in July for a long weekend. Gazillions of sausages, packs of bacon and black pudding….among other things. It’s a customs risk, but…..
That 15 min in the shop is normally >£100, but I refuse to buy anything from Home form Home in Strassen.

I'm the same, and never go in there. Not sure I'll be bringing meat back with me when I come over after a trip at the end of the month, but I do have quite a long shopping list. I'm hoping that the CD plates might make them less inclined to search me! laugh

Had some Tesco vouchers left over, so had Zizzis for lunch.

Started with cheese Fondue

Then had their 6 Layer Lasagne - could have done without the crumble on top of it but otherwise pretty good.

A friend of mine got caught recently bringing some decent bacon and sausages back from London. He'd offered to bring me back a brace of pheasant, as they're pretty much impossible to get German-speaking Switzerland. I can only imagine the looks on the faces of the customs officers if he had!

Today's lunch is left overs from yesterday's smoked hunk of cow
