Just for the record (and I'm sure you already know Gareth) those numbers represent the date of manufature. the first number is the year, and the following three numbers are the number of days into the year that particular pack was made. So, 6036 would be made on 5th February 2016, and it will continue until 5365 (31st December). 5366 is 29th February 2016.
I hope that is of some use to you all.
I'm sorry to say this, but you're wrong, at least in Aldi and Lidl's case. The first two numbers go from 1 to 52, the second two numbers go from 1-7. They represent the week number of the year and the day of the week that the product was packaged. So if you go into your local Aldi or Lidl next week you should see stuff beginning with a 12 or 13 depending on how fresh it is.
Yesterday (in Aldi), things were mostly 1205 or 1206, but a few 1207s if you looked carefully.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but has anyone else tried Lidl's own Hatherwood craft beer range? have had a few of the ale's, the IPA and the lager which is all pretty decent(Gnarly Fox, Green Gecko and Golden Goose are very good)
I've tried a few of them, and they are excellent.

The labelling is a bit confusing. I accidentally bought a ginger beer, which I don't like.

One of them is labelled as a lager, but it is more like a light ale. Quite delicious.
Gnarly Fox, always pick up a few every time i go theredrink

Lidl are having a Spanish special on at the moment.

They really have outdone themselves this time. They seem to have twice as much Spanish stuff as last year.

Tonight we had dates wrapped in parma ham for a starter and meatballs in spicy tomato sauce for our main.

Both were delicious.

My wife is Spanish, and she loved both dishes.

Must make a visit then, after the previous recommends I do keep a bag of the Lidl frozen Paella in the freezer, quite acceptable as an emergency dish.

I like the stuffed vine leaves, really nice flavour.

I bought some chorizo and mini chicken skewers in herbs and my usual feta cheese.

Not updated in a while...

Other half loves the Aldi coconut water, its not from concentrate, no added rubbish and its less than £2/litre so in terms of coconut water its a steal.

New in the Freezer section are Buffalo and tomato burgers, wild boar and apple burgers, both are really nice, lean and dense. there are a couple of sausage varieties too but not tried them yet.

What does she use coconut water for?

The LIDL black and white packet of Serrano ham is sublime. Not the other , slightly cheaper, yellow packet.

Their butter ring biscuits are also beautiful.

Cheers, will have a look for the burgers, already got some brioche buns in the freezer.

Sweet chilli salmon in the little microwave pack for tea, bang on for not a right lot of money.

Someone earlier in this thread recommended the Lidl frozen paella. I remembered that and bought my first pack of frozen paella yesterday smile
Very good, have only tried the microwave method and was a bit concerned with the amount of olive oil to add.
Easily mopped up from the bottom of the bowl with a few kitchen towels biggrin but I think it is probably essential to the cooking method.
I found there wasn't enough rice and so needed the baguette I'd bought to have with it. I'd have preferred extra rice.

For £1.99 and enough for 4 portions I thought it was great value for money and very tasty lick

Lidl 'Deluxe' pizza. 9/10. Very good, plenty of tasty filling, certainly one of the best home cook pizzas Ive had in a long while, and for £3 or whatever it was, probably the best value ever. Very happy.

However

Lidl frozen pizza, 3 for £2.75 (I think). Avoid at all costs. Cheese and Tomato is a misnomer as I couldnt find anything other than a stupid sprinkling of cheese. 2/10.

The Aldi frozen pizza with a cheese-stuffed crust is very nice. The box is stamped £2, but they're £1.79. Cooks really well and the dough puffs up nicely.

Thank you for the recommendation. We had it for dinner tonight. It was very good. The bread base was superb. It was the first one that wasn't "squidgy" that we have had in ages.

I must say that most of the things that we have bought with the "De Luxe" label have been very good.

Last year, Lidl had a superb Chablis at £7.99. It quickly took off and they (sensibly) put the price up to £8,99.

Once again, they have a Chablis with the same label at £7.99. I will open a bottle tomorrow, but I expect it to be superb value for money.

Too late to flick through and check this hasn't been mentioned but Aldi have a beer festival on right now. £1.15 a bottle and lots of great independent breweries.

Just had a "wet your whistle" brewed by the steam box brewery in Wiltshire. Bloody beautiful.
