A stove top coffee pot needs espresso grind coffee and most cafetiere grinds don't work. I don't think they do one. By all means try one and see.

Good point I missed that. I'll take a wee look, see what they do and report back

Large north Atlantic prawns from the freezer at Aldi, about three and a half quid, best I have ever tasted

Can anyone recommend a red wine from Aldi (or Lidl)? Couldn't see anything inspiring, last time I was in.

Toro Loco is cheap as chips and has won awards, found in Aldi in the red section

It's remarkably good at the price and goes down better than a number of more expensive wines.

No, but I can from Home Bargains. Yes, really. Palais Saint Vigni Cotes Du Rhone Villages 2014. £4.99 at my local branch. I spotted it the other day when I was in picking up some cleaning products (top bargains to be had) googled it and found a glowing review from Susie Hunter from when it was discounted to £6.99 from £8.99 at Waitrose.

It was eminently quaffable with our Aldi Beef and Stilton pie.

I'm popping back in tomorrow to buy a few bottles for the cupboard.

NB, not one for just swigging, benefited from being open for a while.

I got some very disapproving looks when I cleared the shelf last time my local Aldi had the reserve in drunk

Their fault really, they need more stock!

Also any of the Ribera del Duero wines are excellent value as is the Malbec (not the French one that's like Ribena)

The Argentine Malbec is nice for the price. The NZ Pinot Noir is good too.

As others have said the Toro Loco is very good.

Lidl do a Rioja Joven which is excellent. If you like your wine well oaked, then the Rioja Reserva is very good.

Vignobles Roussellet Pinot Noir from Aldi is a fantastic drop for under a fiver.

Is it a typically light pinot?

Quite light yes, very easy drinking.

It was actually one of the wine picks on Saturday Kitchen a year or so ago. I've been extolling its virtues for a few years now, for £4.60 or however much it is I always get a bottle in when we visit Aldi.

One of my supermarket favourites is the Matou Pinot Noir, normally about a tenner but sometimes on offer, this runs it close for me.

Interesting, I'm drinking co-op Argentine Malbec now, and it's not bad!

Thanks to all who replied, many more responses than I was expecting! Maybe I will make a list, and try them all!
