A few, can't remember off the top of my head. We've had a few and the last one was something and asparagus.

interesting, I had some waitrose fillets recently and they were pretty damn good. Are the Aldi ones pre packed? -How heavy and how much?

Tried full range of steaks from both Aldi and Lidl. Slightly prefer Lidll, both are good and both better than Waitrose. All pre-packed and usually round 7/8 oz. Hth.

Lidl ones are pre-packed...

Fillet runs in at £24 kg, rump is £9 kg, rib eye is somewhere in between.

Lidl and Aldi are so similar that the prices should be very very close.

Afraid I tried an Aldi epic fail over the season . I bought some of the Caviar at 9.99 for 20g. I think I was drwn in by the fact it was from a hybrid Sturgeon, so allegedly , should be "similar" to the "proper"stuff , Sevruga, Oscietra.

End result? Tastless!!! Tried by 4 or 5 of us, all the same opinion, chucked it away.

Sometimes you just have to pay to get the real stuff.

Rest of the Aldi stuff tried so far, epic, just this one downturn, so far.

From lidl but I finally gave in to trying the hazelnut heart cookies. One of the best things I've ever tasted.

My Aldi is selling off the Christmas Pies for half price. It makes the luxury ones affordable and are a nice desert anytime of hte year.

Only disappointment hss been a gammon joint that even after being soaked to remove as much salt as possible before being boiled in coke is far too salty. Almost to the point it's inedible.

That is odd, we often get the gammon joints from Aldi. Soaked over night and then slow cooker. They've always been great.

Wonder if you just got a particularly salty one.

Anybody here have any of their chicken breasts in the fridge? Im wondering what the water content is and if the label lists the "raw" as sold nutritional information. All the water injected stuff looses a bunch of weight when you cook it so while it looks like your getting a great £ per kg you actually don't.

I've tried the Lidl skinned/boned chicken breasts and thought they were disappointing: full of water and they shrank when cooked.

The chicken thighs/legs/whole bird is a different story. The free range is particularly good.

If you're just after cheap protein then buy frozen. Waitrose frozen chicken thighs at £2.80 per Kg are every bit as good as Waitrose fresh at £5.37 per Kg.

Agreed, we get a free range bird pretty much every week, very good indeed.

That is strange as we buy the Lidl chicken breasts and can fault them along side the ones from the butcher.

From what I was informed Lidl fresh chicken breasts are locally sourced - the ones from my store are decent. Not sure if how true this is, but it was from one of their Management team.

I saw that and was tempted, especially since it is now reduced to £5. I've never had caviar before smile

Check the packaging for the EC code, small oval will contain the initials of the country it came from and a numerical code that identifies the packing facility.
