I'm as fast as they are, I put my two large IKEA style bags in my trolley with the tops folded back to keep them rigid and open and stuff goes into the bags as soon as they've ttted it to me, usually grabbing it before they've hardly even let go. I don't need to use the shelf to go and pack. Last time I mentioned this in here I was torn a new ahole by people who just couldn't understand or comprehend that I could keep up, apparently I'm delaying things, holding people up, but two huge great open bags are no different to putting stuff into an empty trolley. No faffing with a card or phone or watch to pay either, my ring is contactless.

I AM THE FASTEST PACKING CUSTOMER BY A COUNTRY MILE. I'M LIKE BISHOP IN THE KNIFE SCENE IN ALIEN, SO THE NAYSAYERS CAN STFU THIS TIME!
Yes brother. I'm with you on this... get in - get out - don't fk-about.

Thats what I've always liked about Aldi.

I went into Tesco before christmas for something specific... talk about dilly-dallying.. and tting about banghead

Old Dorris at the checkout started some inane conversation about driving at night, and then started sniffing my bread loaf!!... just scan it and let me escape ffs.

  • If you arrange your items on the conveyor belt - in size / frozen / fragile.. saves everyone alot of time. + get all your -20% red labels through at the start.

Agreed. My only gripe is that I can't believe 21st Century Man is quicker than me. I use his technique but I operate at the speed of light.
Never ever has any Aldi checkout wallah managed to scan faster than I can pack.
It's personal.
I beg to differ. I worked for Lidl around 25 years ago. I know the secrets. I’m often waiting for staff to scan so I can continue packing. I pack so that when I return home my unpacking is just at fast. I feel a challenge is required hehe

...Anyone else tried Aldi's new Gastropub chilled meal range?

Just tried the butter chicken curry and it's seriously very good indeed. I'd say it's a level above M&S and a lot cheaper - £3.89 for a generous 2 person portion.

The fish pie is excellent too.

I wil be heading back to try some of the other offerings in the range.lick
We had the butter chicken curry tonight and agree - very tasty lick - and it is a generous helping for 2 people thumbup

Now to try and find a jalfrezi

The Chicken Tikka Masala is my favourite supermarket curry ever , its similar to the butter chicken but a bit richer, smokier and spicier. I devour them !
The Jalfrezi is hot.

From the gastro chilled range - I thoroughly recommend the beef shortrib and truffle oil pizza too - it's on special so doesn't appear all the time like the others in the range. We bought the last 3 on Friday and we had polished the lot by Saturday lunchtime!

Unless you live in Southern Hampshire, they're rubbish there. Don't buy them, they're terrible, leave them on the shelf and pretend you didn't see them....

No luck with the Jalfrezi just yet but I picked up a Bhuna Prawn at the weekend and that was very good too. The garlic and corriander naan from the bread section were spot on as well

...my quest for the elusive Jalfrezi continues

Where I am in the West Midlands there are always loads of the Jalfrezi in the curry boxes ! If you see the tikka massala don't hesitate, buy it.

Only buying a few items in Aldi, I thought it was a godsend when they introduced the self checkouts but recently of the 8 installed at my local Aldi only half seem to be operational at a time frown

Same at my local Lidls. There's always a least 2 of the 8 broken. Only half the machines take cash so there's also a sub-queue for those machines as well.

My local ALDI is like this, I think it's deliberate. During quiet times they might only have 4-5 out of the 10 on and in use. They have to ask someone else to enable the additional ones if it suddenly gets busier. Seems a little ridiculous tbh.

Aldi has what I would desctibe as possibly the best wine in the country under £20 (I know, tastes vary). It is their French, Rhone Valley Vinsobres for an astonishing £8.49. You have to open and then let it breathe for a couple of hours. It has complexity and gentle tannins with a lovely balance of fruit. These Cru Cotes du Rhone are punching way above their price. This one reminds me of a Gigondas or a cheap (but good) Chateauneuf du Papes.

I'd very much agree with this, not had the one you have referenced but I've had some utterly brilliant bargain wines from Aldi recently including Pomerol, Amarone and Condrieu all at around a tenner that have not disappointed.

maybe a profession that's mostly paid in cash? though yes, i rarely pay in cash. I will always pay via card.. Sometimes even only going to corner shops that don't have a minimum charge for card payments.

However I will still always pay in cash when it comes to small local businesses, like the local bakery, chinese takeaway, chippy, fried chicken shop etc.. Many of them are cash only, or require at least £10 spend (which i never spend that much at)
